SUMMARY:Make-A-Wish® UK Valentines Ball
DESCRIPTION:Make-A-Wish® UK invites you to their annual Valentine’s Ball taking place at The Royal Lancaster Hotel\, London on Saturday 15th February. The charity is delighted to announce that popstar Nadine Coyle will be headlining the event performing her long-awaited new music being released later this month along with the much-loved classics. This glorious extravaganza promises an evening of exclusive entertainment\, amazing food\, and fundraising opportunities for a great cause. \n“I am delighted to be part of the Make-A-Wish UK Valentine’s Ball on 15 January. I hope to see you there to celebrate the wonderful things that Make-A-Wish does for children and their families.” Nadine Coyle \nTickets for this incredible event cost £300 each or £3\,000 for a table of 10\, with all proceeds going to Make-A-Wish and the wonderful children and families they support. \n  \n\n\n \nThe Valentine’s Ball will welcome over 300 guests\, who will experience a glamorous and truly unique evening. Guests will be treated to a champagne reception\, a three-course dinner and fine wines\, and lively entertainment throughout the evening. \nThe Ball will be hosted by popular presenter and journalist Lauren Layfield\, as well as presenter and magician\, Archie Manners. This sensational evening will be opened with a fun-filled\, energetic performance from West End Kids\, singing hits from the popular show Waitress. \nThere is the much anticipated main and silent auctions\, with bespoke ‘money can’t buy prizes’\, along with a truly powerful moment of the evening\, where children’s One True Wishes can be sponsored. This year’s Auctioneer will be the wonderful BBC Flog It’s Thomas Forrester. \nThe evening will culminate in an amazing performance from Nadine\, followed by an upbeat house band to get guests dancing the night away. \nThe Valentine’s Ball is an important part of the charity’s fundraising efforts and has been running for over 15 years. Last year’s event\, formerly known as the Spring Ball\, raised over £300\,000\, and the charity is hoping to exceed it for 2020. This amount helps Make-A-Wish to grant more than 65 children’s magical wishes. \nBetween September 2018 and August 2019\, the charity granted a record number of magical wishes in one year\, reaching over 1\,100 children. However\, every month\, hundreds more children turn to them and their goal is to reach every child that needs a wish. \nA child’s wish is totally unique and magical for them. Whether it’s starring in their own films\, walking with dinosaurs\, going on their first family holiday\, meeting a celebrity hero\, or having a bedroom makeover; wishes are varied\, personal and life changing. Make-A-Wish aims to always go above and beyond the children’s imagination in to granting their extraordinary wishes to very amazing children. Crucial funds raised at the Ball will go towards granting wishes such as Skye’s\, who wished to go to Milan Fashion Week. \nTickets are now available to purchase\, with full information on how to book on the charity’s website. Make-A-Wish looks forward to welcoming you to the Valentine’s Ball\, and thanks you for your support.

DESCRIPTION:Farm Africa has announced its annual carol concert will take place virtually for the first time from 7pm to 7.45pm on Wednesday 16 December 2020. \nThe concert will be hosted by farmer and star of Quest’s ‘Born Mucky – Life on the farm’\, Ally Hunter Blair\, and will feature readings by the charity’s patron Michael Palin and agricultural journalist and broadcaster Anna Jones\, as well as a selection of seasonal carols. \nThe concert falls in the same week as Farm Africa’s appeal on BBC Radio 4\, also presented by Michael Palin\, which will be broadcast twice on Sunday 13 December and once on Thursday 17 December. \nThe concert is free to attend\, but there will be opportunities to make donations to Farm Africa including entering a prize draw. Funds raised will support the charity’s work helping farming families across eastern Africa to improve their agricultural practices\, protect their natural resources and strengthen their business management skills. \nAlly Hunter Blair commented: “I am delighted to be hosting Farm Africa’s first ever virtual carol concert. Farm Africa is an outstanding charity and I have seen at first hand some of the truly amazing work that they are doing to help transform the lives of fellow farmers. I’d love to see you all there for some festive cheer. Join us on 16 December!” \nAnna Jones\, who makes television and radio programmes about farming and rural affairs\, including BBC One’s Countryfile and occasionally presents Radio 4’s Farming Today and On Your Farm\, added: “African agriculture holds a very special place in my heart. I have been lucky enough to travel around Kenya\, Tanzania\, Ghana\, Cote d’Ivoire and South Africa meeting farmers and farming communities. It’s easy to feel isolated and powerless in 2020 so Farm Africa’s virtual carol concert is a great opportunity to be involved in something that will raise much-needed funds and much-needed festive cheer!” \nMarian Torres\, Special Events Manager at Farm Africa\, commented: “Farmers across eastern Africa are facing unprecedented challenges. The triple threat of the COVID-19 pandemic\, an invasion of desert locusts and severe flooding threatens to plunge farming communities in the region into crippling poverty. The virtual carol concert offers an opportunity to not only enjoy a festive evening from the comfort of your own home but to help provide farmers in eastern Africa with the knowledge and tools they need to build stronger\, sustainable businesses that can thrive\, even during a crisis.” \nTo book a place at the concert please visit www.farmafrica.org/carols \n  \nBook Christmas Carol Singers for Christmas in London \n

SUMMARY:Smile Train Invites Friends and Families to Host a Big Smile Tea Party
DESCRIPTION:The international children’s cleft charity Smile Train is excited to announce that their annual fundraising event\, the Big Smile Tea Party\, will return for 2021 – just in time for the Easter festivities. \nLaunching from Thursday 1 April – Friday 16 April\, the Big Smile Tea Party encourages friends\, families\, colleagues\, and students all over the UK to come together and host an internationally themed tea party whilst raising vital funds for children with clefts in need of treatment. \nWhether you choose to ‘par-tea’ at home\, schedule a tea break with colleagues over Zoom\, or FaceTime relatives from afar for an afternoon tea\, Smile Train is encouraging everybody to boil the kettle\, enjoy a slice of their favourite cake\, and have a ‘good old natter’ with the people they love whilst donating some spare change to Smile Train if they can. \nMany children around the world with clefts do not have access to proper treatment\, which can permanently impact their ability to eat\, breathe\, speak\, and ultimately thrive. To tackle this issue\, Smile Train empowers local medical professionals in 70+ countries with the training\, funding\, and resources they need to provide free cleft surgery and other forms of essential care to children in their own communities. \n \n  \n  \nAll funds raised through the Big Smile Tea Party will allow the charity to continue this lifesaving work and give more children the opportunity to live healthy and productive lives. \nThere is no time like the present to show off your lockdown baking skills\, so tie up your aprons\, dig out your best recipe books\, and whip up some treats using your favourite international ingredients to help change the world one smile at a time. \nComplimentary fundraising kits are available to order at smiletrain.org.uk/bigsmileteaparty for anyone who is eager to take part. The kits contain all the essentials you need for a successful tea party\, including Smile Train posters\, balloons\, stickers\, and a collection box. \nIan Vallance\, Director of Smile Train UK\, says: “The Big Smile Tea Party is a perfect opportunity for people to spend some quality time with their loved ones over Easter\, whether that’s in person or virtually\, whilst raising money for children in need around the world. \nTo date\, Smile Train has transformed the lives of more than 1.5 million children with the power of a brand-new forever smile. The funds we receive from the Big Smile Tea Party will enable us to continue our vital work and create even more smiles in the years to come.” \nThe Big Smile Tea Party campaign will be running from Thursday 1 April to Friday 16 April\, but you can hold one at any time. Order your fundraising pack at smiletrain.org.uk/bigsmileteaparty today! \nFind Smile Train UK on Twitter (@SmiletrainUK) Facebook (@SmileTrainUK) and Instagram (@SmileTrainUK) and use #BigSmileTeaParty

SUMMARY:Lito Apostolakou - Clothes You'll Never Wear
DESCRIPTION:‘Clothes You’ll Never Wear’ is a participatory art installation that challenges the function of the retail space as a site of fast fashion consumption by transforming it into an immersive workshop and creative hub for making\, reusing and sharing. \nArtist in residence Lito Apostolakou uses waste materials to create textile sculptures based on personal stories\, memories and perceptions of identity. Drawing inspiration from visual\, textual\, and audio resources\, she invites members of the public to join her in using recyclable materials and waste fabric to create imaginary garments. \n‘Clothes You’ll Never Wear’ responds to the current precarious climate by transforming waste into visual expressions of identity and reimagining the high street as a centre of creativity. Princes Arcade links the cultural hub of the neighbouring Royal Academy with the bespoke menswear retailers of Jermyn Street\, with the project representing a conceptual and physical bridge between both. \nYou are invited to witness the collection of absurd garments develop and grow\, learn about the stories that inspired the pieces or tune into personal memories.

SUMMARY:Yoga for Smiles
DESCRIPTION:International children’s cleft charity\, Smile Train\, is excited to announce that their annual fundraiser\, Yoga for Smiles\, will return for 2021 – helping to bring some much needed ‘zen’ to our lives after a challenging year for many of us. \nYoga for Smiles encourages friends\, families\, colleagues\, and students across the UK to practice yoga whilst raising vital funds for Smile Train – so they can continue to support free cleft surgery and comprehensive cleft care to children globally. \nTo help lift spirits and keep the nation smiling\, Smile Train is encouraging people to ‘Give 5\, Take 5’ on International Day of Yoga (21 June) – by taking a five-minute break out of the day to stretch\, breathe deeply\, and smile\, then donate £5 to Smile Train. \nYoga focuses on the body\, breath\, and movement and can be a brilliant tool to manage and reduce stress – an emotion that has been heightened for many of us throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. So whether you choose to carry out your 5 minutes of yoga at home\, in the gym or at your local park\, you don’t need to bend over backwards to get involved. Five beginner poses to try include: \n1. Child’s pose: This is a very calming pose that gently stretches your lower back\, hips and thighs.\n2. Downward-facing dog: This pose helps to strengthen the arms\, shoulders and back.\n3. Tree pose: This can be carried out to improve balance and strengthen the core.\n4. Cat pose: A simple pose to help stretch the spine\, back muscles and neck. You can couple this with ‘Cow pose’\, which stretches the front of the torso and throat area to create a calming warm up.\n5. Bridge pose: Acting as an accessible backbend for most people\, this pose is a great way to strengthen the back\, glutes\, hamstrings\, and legs. \nMany children worldwide with cleft do not have access to proper treatment\, which can permanently impact their ability to eat\, breathe\, speak\, and ultimately thrive. To address this issue\, Smile Train empowers local medical professionals in 70+ countries with the training\, funding\, and resources they need to provide free cleft surgery and other forms of essential care to children in their own communities. \nAny funds raised through the Yoga for Smiles initiative will allow Smile Train to continue its’ life-changing work\, giving more children the opportunity to live healthy and productive lives. So\, get stretching and help to change the world one smile at a time! \nThose taking part in the fundraiser are encouraged to share their pose on social media\, tagging five friends to do the same and including the hashtag #YogaForSmiles.

We find it very important to show that nobody is alone with their bad feelings and anxiety\, with their fear of the future. We ask you to share your feelings on Instagram and Facebook about the world reopening\, about the last one and a half year\, with the hashtag of #musicforthemindfeelings . We will project these writings on a screen during the night (anonymously) so all participants can see that we all feel similar things right now. \n—-\nAbout the fundraising: \nIn these difficult times luckily there are charities that deeply care about us. Samaritans are there for us to give emotional support anytime when we are going through hard times\, YoungmindsUK’s dream is to live in a world where no young person feels alone with their mental health. SUMMARY:Art Exhibition - Voice Of Women Project - KYK
DESCRIPTION:Art Exhibition – Notting Hill\nArtist ‘Karis Yves Knight’ is delighted to present an exhibition opening in West London on the 23rd-30th of August on Portobello Road. The exhibition celebrates and recognises women’s voices from a multitude of backgrounds and lifestyles\, represented through abstract\, highly colourful and visual portraiture artworks.\nThe ‘Voice of Women Project’\, which runs from the 23-30th of August\, brings ecstatic vibrancy and colour to the J/M Gallery in Notting Hill – running on the weekend of what would be Notting Hill carnival. With leading female figures in the TV & Film industries depicted and those across a multitude of lifestyles and backgrounds\, the exhibition aims to represent all women from all walks of life. Each portrait sold provides a 25% donation to a chosen charity from the portrayed woman. \nThe ‘Voice of Women Project’ (V.O.W) shares women’s voices while creating a space for reflection and community. Artist Karis stated\, “I wanted to create a space for intimate response and relatability\, opening up discussions about the often-overlooked routine struggles of the 21st-century woman. With tragedies such as the Sarah Everard incident highlighting the importance of solidarity and community\, I want this exhibition to help bring women from all walks of life together.” The paintings aim to capture and represent the idea and depiction of women’s values. This is expressed beyond the focus\, which objectifies physical\, sexual bodies and appearances – with the portraits depicting achievements and struggles in a dreamy\, almost psychedelic\, abstract expression. \nArtist Karis also mentioned\, “I realise how amazing and multifaceted we are as humans. This made me reflect on myself as a woman in this world. I feel compelled to use my voice to assist in empowering others and myself.” Book your tickets today for this one-time event to see the latest pieces and charities involved.
