SUMMARY:Earth Hour Concert: Strauss by Candlelight
DESCRIPTION:Join OFE\, the WWF\, and millions round the world choosing to go ‘lights out’ for Earth Hour as we play two of Richard Strauss’ most beautiful and soul-searching works by candlelight. \nAs accelerating climate change and staggering biodiversity loss threaten our planet\, Earth Hour endeavours to spark never-before-had conversations on the loss of nature and the urgent need to protect it. OFE believes that music must play a part in making these conversations happen\, which is why we are teaming up with the WWF for our Earth Hour 2019 concert. The event will begin with a short presentation by the WWF at 8pm\, followed by a candlelit performance by OFE. In doing so\, we will be joining millions of people choosing to go ‘lights out’ for an hour as a symbolic show of solidarity for the planet. \nThe music chosen for this event was written by Richard Strauss in 1945\, as Europe’s darkest hour finally drew to a close. These extraordinarily beautiful pieces\, written when the composer was in his eighties\, show two contrasting reactions to the world around him: the Metamorphosen weeps for what has been lost\, while the Oboe Concerto strives for optimism. The programme will begin with Benjamin Britten’s beguiling Metamorphoses after Ovid\, itself a meditation on love\, loss\, hope\, and the natural world. \nBritten: Six Metamorphoses after Ovid (selection)\nR. Strauss: Metamorphosen for 23 solo strings\nR. Strauss: Oboe Concerto \nChloe Barnes: oboe\nVictoria Gill: leader\nJohn Warner: conductor

SUMMARY:T.O.A.D. Show at Lesnes Abbey\, Bexley
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to our T.O.A.D. Show at Lesnes Abbey\, Bexley\, hosted by Froglife’s London Tails Of Amphibian Discovery (T.O.A.D.) Project. Come along for a fun day out for children and adults! \nThis event celebrates the successful pond restoration of Pine Pond carried out by Froglife and the local council in March 2019. Before the work\, Pine Pond had little native vegetation\, low oxygen levels and no breeding amphibians. Within 2 weeks of the restoration work\, toads were spotted breeding in the pond. The UK’s toad population has declined by 68% over the last 30 years so Pine Pond is now a valuable asset in helping the species survive. \nOur T.O.A.D Show will include a variety of free activities available for the public to get involved with\, including: \n• Free Wildlife Photography Workshops with an expert wildlife photographer\n• Virtual Reality Experience – See what life is like from a toad’s point-of-view!\n• Guided Walks around the site\n• Local street artists live-painting a mural of a common toad (1 of an edition of 7 in London)\n• Pond Doctor – Ask our resident expert any questions you have about amphibians or ponds\n• Information Stand – Learn how to identify London’s reptiles and amphibians and find out what it takes to build the perfect pond\n• Children’s activities

SUMMARY:World Zombie Day
DESCRIPTION:Dive into the spirit of Halloween with World Zombie Day. Apart from terrifying those around\, London World Zombie Day has been doing charities that have helped others. \nThis is the final bang for London World Zombie Day. Therefore\, all lost lost zombies as well as new zombies shall gather to shamble through Central London\, dressed up in your zombie finest\, to meet at the secret location. Think of it like one last “hurrah!” before hammering  the final nails into the coffins and snuggle down for a long\, long sleep. \nThis year World Zombie day hopes to raise charity for prevention of hunger and homelessness. The money goes towards charities that work on alleviating these issues. The charity of choice this year is City Harvest – giving food another life. City Harvest has a simple mission: Rapidly rescue surplus food and use it to feed those who need it most. Be part of the team making London first to be a zero-waste city. \nRegister HERE to attend World Zombie Day: London. We will contact you with information about how you can prepare for the day\, help fundraise\, and most importantly: where to go on the day! \n2017 video: \n \nThe event is free\, but please show your support by adding on a donation when you register (suggested amount: £5). This will help cover minimal admin cost and the rest will go towards the charity. The walk is a family-friendly event. Under 18’s requires parental supervision. \nYou can only register for two spaces\, but it’s free…. so if your friends want to go\, just send them here. If they register themselves\, they’ll be sure to get the event details in their email\, saving you the bother of having to tell them where to meet you. *You do not need to register your zom-children or zom-dogs. \n \nSome things to remember:\nPut on a good show! Stay in character but don’t get carried away. You are responsible for your own safety and  good conduct. \n1. Use the “haunted house” rule in that you are not to touch anyone. \n2. Use your best judgement when it comes to planning your outfit. Please do not bring weapons (fake\, fantasy\, and definitely not real). As you’ll be on your feet and outdoors for most of the day\, take this into consideration. And be creative! \n3. Do not attempt to scare anyone who is not a willing participant. If anyone is freaking out\, turn and shamble in the opposite direction. Avoid confrontations! \n4. If your walk is anywhere near streets or roadways\, stay on the pavement unless crossing the street. When crossing\, it’s OK to “break character” and cross quickly. Think fast “New Dawn of the Dead” zombies verses the slower “Old Dawn of the Dead” zombies when crossing the street. Blocking traffic is a crime and anyone doing so could be arrested. \n5. STRICTLY NO ILLEGAL DRUGS are permitted and no alcohol for under 18’s. Police will be called if this rule is broken. \n6. No littering\, destruction of property\, or any other illegal activity. This includes smearing fake blood\, banging on windows\, etc. The organisers will not be held responsible for any damaged property. Pretend the location of the walk is your own neighbourhood and show the utmost respect. This event is a tradition\, so we don’t want to ruin it. Remember\, the press will be watching (along with the police) and this event could get world-wide news coverage. Let’s put on a good show. \n7. Keep in mind you might be asked for a picture ID at the pubs and your zombie face might not match your picture ID. If you are refused entry\, please understand the doorman is only doing his job. \n8. Please do not attempt to push your way into any business if you are not welcome. \nCan you dig it? \n  \nSo dress Up and let’s get your scare on!

SUMMARY:13th Native Spirit Festival - Decolonial Love: 2-Spirit and Indigiqueer
DESCRIPTION:WARNING: ADULT CONTENT VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED (LESS LETHAL FETISHES) \nTHIRZA CUTHAND AT THE HORSE HOSPITAL PRESENTS HER FILM RETROSPECTIVE FOLLOWED BY TALK\nThirza is an Whitney Biennial 2019 artist. A filmmaker and writer\, of Plains Cree and Scots descent\, a member of Little Pine First Nation\, who currently resides in Toronto\, Canada. \nHELPLESS MAIDEN MAKES AN “I” STATEMENT 1999 | 6’\nBy using clips of evil queens/witches this video plays off the sadomasochistic lesboerotic subtexts commonly found in children’s entertainment. A helpless maiden is tiring of her consensual s/m relationship with her lover\, and “evil” queen. She wants to break up. An impassioned monologue in a dungeon with our heroine in wrist cuffs quickly becomes an emotionally messy ending in flames. \nSIGHT 2012 | 3’\nSuper 8 footage layered with Sharpie marked lines and circles obscuring the image illustrates the story of the filmmaker’s experience with temporary episodes of migraine related blindness and her cousin’s self induced blindness later in life. Paralleling the experience of Blindness with Mental Illness\, Cuthand deftly elucidates that any of us could lose any of our abilities at any time. \nJUST DANDY 2013 | 8’\nInvited to speak at an Indigenous Revolutionary Meeting\, the narrator describes an intimate encounter with an Evil Colonizing Queen which leads to Turtle Island’s contraction of an invasive European flora. \n2 SPIRIT INTRODUCTORY SPECIAL $19.99 2015 | 5’\nNew to the 2 Spirit lifestyle? `Want to talk to someone in the Spirit and the Flesh instead of reading The Spirit and the Flesh? We have just the service for you! Call now and for only 19.99 a month you can get instant unlimited telephone access to traditional knowledge and support. We also provide monthly gifts for subscribers\, call now and we can hook you up with this beaded whisk! Perfect for DIY spankings and pancakes the morning after your first snag! Don’t hesitate\, ring those phones! \n2 SPIRIT DREAMCATCHER DOT COM 2017 | 5′\n2 Spirit Dreamcatcher Dot Com queers and indigenizes traditional dating site advertisements. Using a Butch NDN ‘lavalife” lady (performed by director Thirza Cuthand)\, 2 Spirit Dreamcatcher Dot Com seduces the viewer into 2 Spirit “snagging and shacking up” with suggestions of nearby pipeline protests to take your date to\, and helpful elders who will matchmake you and tell off disrespectful suitors. It’s the culturally appropriate website all single 2 Spirit people wish existed. \nTHIRZA CUTHAND IS AN INDIAN WITHIN THE MEANING OF THE INDIAN ACT\n2017 | 9’\nContemplating mixed race identity in Canada\, Cuthand presents us with images of blood ties and land ties for indigenous people\, and questions the use of the words “white passing” and “light skinned.” As a light skinned indigenous woman\, Cuthand reiterates that racism and discrimination still happen for her\, just in different ways. Community belonging is contrasted with the difference experiences she has from her darker skinned family. Ultimately\, a video with more questions than answers\, it situates the artist’s body in historical trauma and ongoing colonial survival. \nRECLAMATION 2018 | 13’\n‘Reclamation’ is a documentary-style imagining of a post-dystopic future in Canada after massive climate change\, wars\, pollution\, and the after effects of the large scale colonial project which has now destroyed the land. When Indigenous people are left behind after a massive exodus by primarily privileged white settlers who have moved to Mars\, the original inhabitants of this land cope by trying to restore and rehabilitate the beautiful planet they belong to. \nWARNING: ADULT CONTENT VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED\nLESS LETHAL FETISHES 2019 | 9’\nGrappling with a latent gas mask fetish\, Cuthand muses on art world political controversies\, toxic emissions from the petrochemical Industry\, and complicity in repression and pollution as an artist enmeshed in an art and film industry propped up by dirty funders. \nWe acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts \nBREAK \nDISCUSSION Q&A with Thirza Cuthand and Iris Wakulenko\, Associate Lecturer in documentary film at the University of Arts London and freelance filmmaker with subject areas of interest: women in film\, Indigenous filmmaking\, collaborative and ethical practice and emerging media. \nOCHISKWACHO \nJules Koostachin 2018 | Cree\, Canada | 15’\nOchiskwacho is a sacred being\, known to many Indigenous people as a spiritual messenger. Kokoom\, an elderly (spiritually ailing) two-spirit woman has to decide whether to stay with her grandchildren or follow the Ochiskwacho. \nOSHKIKISHIKAW: A NEW DAY\nJules Koostachin 2019 | Cree\, Canada | 15’\n12 year-old twins cut their hair for the very first time in a Cree coming-of-age ceremony. \nBIIDAABAN (THE DAWN COMES)\nAmanda Strong 2018 | Michif\, Canada | 19’\nGender-fluid Anishinaabeg youth collects sap ceremonially accompanied by a 10\,000-year-old shapeshifting Sasquatch and friend known as Sabe\, Biidaaban sets out on a mission to reclaim the ceremonial harvesting of sap from maple trees in an unwelcoming suburban neighbourhood of Ontario. \nDriven by the words of Anishinaabe writer Leanne Betasamosake Simpson\, Amanda Strong’s mesmerizing stop motion animation intricately weaves together multiple worlds through time and space\, calling for a rebellion.
