SUMMARY:World Zombie Day
DESCRIPTION:Dive into the spirit of Halloween with World Zombie Day. Apart from terrifying those around\, London World Zombie Day has been doing charities that have helped others. \nThis is the final bang for London World Zombie Day. Therefore\, all lost lost zombies as well as new zombies shall gather to shamble through Central London\, dressed up in your zombie finest\, to meet at the secret location. Think of it like one last “hurrah!” before hammering  the final nails into the coffins and snuggle down for a long\, long sleep. \nThis year World Zombie day hopes to raise charity for prevention of hunger and homelessness. The money goes towards charities that work on alleviating these issues. The charity of choice this year is City Harvest – giving food another life. City Harvest has a simple mission: Rapidly rescue surplus food and use it to feed those who need it most. Be part of the team making London first to be a zero-waste city. \nRegister HERE to attend World Zombie Day: London. We will contact you with information about how you can prepare for the day\, help fundraise\, and most importantly: where to go on the day! \n2017 video: \n \nThe event is free\, but please show your support by adding on a donation when you register (suggested amount: £5). This will help cover minimal admin cost and the rest will go towards the charity. The walk is a family-friendly event. Under 18’s requires parental supervision. \nYou can only register for two spaces\, but it’s free…. so if your friends want to go\, just send them here. If they register themselves\, they’ll be sure to get the event details in their email\, saving you the bother of having to tell them where to meet you. *You do not need to register your zom-children or zom-dogs. \n \nSome things to remember:\nPut on a good show! Stay in character but don’t get carried away. You are responsible for your own safety and  good conduct. \n1. Use the “haunted house” rule in that you are not to touch anyone. \n2. Use your best judgement when it comes to planning your outfit. Please do not bring weapons (fake\, fantasy\, and definitely not real). As you’ll be on your feet and outdoors for most of the day\, take this into consideration. And be creative! \n3. Do not attempt to scare anyone who is not a willing participant. If anyone is freaking out\, turn and shamble in the opposite direction. Avoid confrontations! \n4. If your walk is anywhere near streets or roadways\, stay on the pavement unless crossing the street. When crossing\, it’s OK to “break character” and cross quickly. Think fast “New Dawn of the Dead” zombies verses the slower “Old Dawn of the Dead” zombies when crossing the street. Blocking traffic is a crime and anyone doing so could be arrested. \n5. STRICTLY NO ILLEGAL DRUGS are permitted and no alcohol for under 18’s. Police will be called if this rule is broken. \n6. No littering\, destruction of property\, or any other illegal activity. This includes smearing fake blood\, banging on windows\, etc. The organisers will not be held responsible for any damaged property. Pretend the location of the walk is your own neighbourhood and show the utmost respect. This event is a tradition\, so we don’t want to ruin it. Remember\, the press will be watching (along with the police) and this event could get world-wide news coverage. Let’s put on a good show. \n7. Keep in mind you might be asked for a picture ID at the pubs and your zombie face might not match your picture ID. If you are refused entry\, please understand the doorman is only doing his job. \n8. Please do not attempt to push your way into any business if you are not welcome. \nCan you dig it? \n  \nSo dress Up and let’s get your scare on!

SUMMARY:13th Native Spirit Festival - Decolonial Love: 2-Spirit and Indigiqueer
DESCRIPTION:WARNING: ADULT CONTENT VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED (LESS LETHAL FETISHES) \nTHIRZA CUTHAND AT THE HORSE HOSPITAL PRESENTS HER FILM RETROSPECTIVE FOLLOWED BY TALK\nThirza is an Whitney Biennial 2019 artist. A filmmaker and writer\, of Plains Cree and Scots descent\, a member of Little Pine First Nation\, who currently resides in Toronto\, Canada. \nHELPLESS MAIDEN MAKES AN “I” STATEMENT 1999 | 6’\nBy using clips of evil queens/witches this video plays off the sadomasochistic lesboerotic subtexts commonly found in children’s entertainment. A helpless maiden is tiring of her consensual s/m relationship with her lover\, and “evil” queen. She wants to break up. An impassioned monologue in a dungeon with our heroine in wrist cuffs quickly becomes an emotionally messy ending in flames. \nSIGHT 2012 | 3’\nSuper 8 footage layered with Sharpie marked lines and circles obscuring the image illustrates the story of the filmmaker’s experience with temporary episodes of migraine related blindness and her cousin’s self induced blindness later in life. Paralleling the experience of Blindness with Mental Illness\, Cuthand deftly elucidates that any of us could lose any of our abilities at any time. \nJUST DANDY 2013 | 8’\nInvited to speak at an Indigenous Revolutionary Meeting\, the narrator describes an intimate encounter with an Evil Colonizing Queen which leads to Turtle Island’s contraction of an invasive European flora. \n2 SPIRIT INTRODUCTORY SPECIAL $19.99 2015 | 5’\nNew to the 2 Spirit lifestyle? `Want to talk to someone in the Spirit and the Flesh instead of reading The Spirit and the Flesh? We have just the service for you! Call now and for only 19.99 a month you can get instant unlimited telephone access to traditional knowledge and support. We also provide monthly gifts for subscribers\, call now and we can hook you up with this beaded whisk! Perfect for DIY spankings and pancakes the morning after your first snag! Don’t hesitate\, ring those phones! \n2 SPIRIT DREAMCATCHER DOT COM 2017 | 5′\n2 Spirit Dreamcatcher Dot Com queers and indigenizes traditional dating site advertisements. Using a Butch NDN ‘lavalife” lady (performed by director Thirza Cuthand)\, 2 Spirit Dreamcatcher Dot Com seduces the viewer into 2 Spirit “snagging and shacking up” with suggestions of nearby pipeline protests to take your date to\, and helpful elders who will matchmake you and tell off disrespectful suitors. It’s the culturally appropriate website all single 2 Spirit people wish existed. \nTHIRZA CUTHAND IS AN INDIAN WITHIN THE MEANING OF THE INDIAN ACT\n2017 | 9’\nContemplating mixed race identity in Canada\, Cuthand presents us with images of blood ties and land ties for indigenous people\, and questions the use of the words “white passing” and “light skinned.” As a light skinned indigenous woman\, Cuthand reiterates that racism and discrimination still happen for her\, just in different ways. Community belonging is contrasted with the difference experiences she has from her darker skinned family. Ultimately\, a video with more questions than answers\, it situates the artist’s body in historical trauma and ongoing colonial survival. \nRECLAMATION 2018 | 13’\n‘Reclamation’ is a documentary-style imagining of a post-dystopic future in Canada after massive climate change\, wars\, pollution\, and the after effects of the large scale colonial project which has now destroyed the land. When Indigenous people are left behind after a massive exodus by primarily privileged white settlers who have moved to Mars\, the original inhabitants of this land cope by trying to restore and rehabilitate the beautiful planet they belong to. \nWARNING: ADULT CONTENT VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED\nLESS LETHAL FETISHES 2019 | 9’\nGrappling with a latent gas mask fetish\, Cuthand muses on art world political controversies\, toxic emissions from the petrochemical Industry\, and complicity in repression and pollution as an artist enmeshed in an art and film industry propped up by dirty funders. \nWe acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts \nBREAK \nDISCUSSION Q&A with Thirza Cuthand and Iris Wakulenko\, Associate Lecturer in documentary film at the University of Arts London and freelance filmmaker with subject areas of interest: women in film\, Indigenous filmmaking\, collaborative and ethical practice and emerging media. \nOCHISKWACHO \nJules Koostachin 2018 | Cree\, Canada | 15’\nOchiskwacho is a sacred being\, known to many Indigenous people as a spiritual messenger. Kokoom\, an elderly (spiritually ailing) two-spirit woman has to decide whether to stay with her grandchildren or follow the Ochiskwacho. \nOSHKIKISHIKAW: A NEW DAY\nJules Koostachin 2019 | Cree\, Canada | 15’\n12 year-old twins cut their hair for the very first time in a Cree coming-of-age ceremony. \nBIIDAABAN (THE DAWN COMES)\nAmanda Strong 2018 | Michif\, Canada | 19’\nGender-fluid Anishinaabeg youth collects sap ceremonially accompanied by a 10\,000-year-old shapeshifting Sasquatch and friend known as Sabe\, Biidaaban sets out on a mission to reclaim the ceremonial harvesting of sap from maple trees in an unwelcoming suburban neighbourhood of Ontario. \nDriven by the words of Anishinaabe writer Leanne Betasamosake Simpson\, Amanda Strong’s mesmerizing stop motion animation intricately weaves together multiple worlds through time and space\, calling for a rebellion.

SUMMARY:Feast of the Century
DESCRIPTION:CHAMPAGNE COCKTAILS\, TURKEY LEG MEAT PIES AND PROSECCO FOR PUDDING: 100 YEARS OF CHRISTMAS IN ONE TIME-HOPPING FESTIVE TASTING MENU AT ‘TESCO FEAST OF THE CENTURY’ \nOn 4 and 5 December\, Tesco will host a Christmas dinner like no other\, taking guests on an immersive culinary journey through the past 100 years of festive celebrations. \nStarting in 1919\, the year Tesco founder\, Jack Cohen\, set up his Hackney market stall\, diners will travel through time\, getting a taste of Christmases past\, present and future through dishes all made using the festive food selection available at Tesco this Christmas. Diners will be served up a century’s worth of Christmas food and drink in one decadent\, decade-hopping menu – through the Art Deco era\, the swinging sixties\, to the present day and beyond. \nHeld in partnership with renowned ‘dining adventurers’\, Flavourology\, diners will enjoy an 11-course tasting menu that celebrates key moments in time and iconic Christmas dishes of past decades. The feasting menu was conceptualised by food historian\, Tasha Marks\, and reimagined for present day diners by Tesco and Flavourology chefs. \nGuests will enter the venue\, a former 1900s police station in Covent Garden\, and receive a welcome drink inspired by the era to sip on as they journey back in time at the ‘Tesco Feast of the Century.’ Once seated\, diners will then travel through each decade – just like Joel\, the delivery driver in this year’s Tesco Christmas advert – via a heady mix of swirling projections\, music and light\, guided by time-travelling hosts. Each new course will signify the passing of time\, and as each one is served\, the environment the diners are in will change\, giving guests a truly immersive experience. \nThe first 10 courses will reimagine what people of each decade from the past 100 years would have enjoyed around the Christmas dinner table; from a 1930s festive ham terrine\, to a 70s prawn cocktail with a modern twist and an update on the 80s drunken cheese fondue. \nThe final course\, the 11th\, will celebrate the dish of Christmas future. Invented by – and informed by the insights of – the Tesco Product Development Chefs. This dish also takes inspiration from Marks’ analysis of trends over the past 100 years\, to predict what Christmas dinners of the future could look like. \nFittingly\, the feast costs £19.19 – taking inspiration from the year Tesco was founded – and all proceeds will go to charity. \nTasha Marks\, food historian\, said: “Food has always been central to our Christmas celebrations\, so it was fascinating to take a deep dive into the trends that have influenced our festive feasts over the past 100 years. From beef\, to turkey\, Port to Prosecco – some of our tastes may have changed\, but decadence\, delicious food and a touch of luxury have always been at the heart of our Christmas menus. Based on this fact alone\, you can be sure that the Tesco Feast of the Century will deliver a festive night to remember!” \nMartyn Lee\, Executive Chef\, Product Development\, for Tesco said: “Tesco has been delivering Christmas for 100 years\, so we felt that putting on a feast of this kind was a fitting way to celebrate and the perfect way to showcase our fantastic festive foods this year. We follow trends and changing tastes closely to ensure we deliver the perfect Christmas for all the nation and we’ve worked hard with Tasha and Flavourology to craft a truly unforgettable experience. The Tesco Feast of the Century will be a celebration of festive food and its important role in the nation’s celebrations at Christmastime.” \nThe ‘Tesco Feast of the Century’ will take place on Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 December between 6.30pm and 11pm\, at 5 Great Newport St\, Covent Garden\, London WC2H 7JB. \nTickets are available via Design My Night https://www.designmynight.com/london/whats-on/christmas-themed/tesco-feast-of-the-century \nTerms and conditions \nWe want you to have a great time at the event\, so please make sure you (and your guests) are aware that: \nWe cannot guarantee entry for late arrivals\, arrive at 6.30pm. Remember to bring your ticket with you (electronic or paper versions are fine). The tickets are non-exchangeable and have no monetary value. Entry: over 18s only (due to alcohol being served). We reserve the right to check ID on the door. The event can provide vegetarian\, vegan and gluten-free dishes\, if required. SUMMARY:Make-A-Wish® UK Valentines Ball
DESCRIPTION:Make-A-Wish® UK invites you to their annual Valentine’s Ball taking place at The Royal Lancaster Hotel\, London on Saturday 15th February. The charity is delighted to announce that popstar Nadine Coyle will be headlining the event performing her long-awaited new music being released later this month along with the much-loved classics. This glorious extravaganza promises an evening of exclusive entertainment\, amazing food\, and fundraising opportunities for a great cause. \n“I am delighted to be part of the Make-A-Wish UK Valentine’s Ball on 15 January. I hope to see you there to celebrate the wonderful things that Make-A-Wish does for children and their families.” Nadine Coyle \nTickets for this incredible event cost £300 each or £3\,000 for a table of 10\, with all proceeds going to Make-A-Wish and the wonderful children and families they support. \n  \n\n\n \nThe Valentine’s Ball will welcome over 300 guests\, who will experience a glamorous and truly unique evening. Guests will be treated to a champagne reception\, a three-course dinner and fine wines\, and lively entertainment throughout the evening. \nThe Ball will be hosted by popular presenter and journalist Lauren Layfield\, as well as presenter and magician\, Archie Manners. This sensational evening will be opened with a fun-filled\, energetic performance from West End Kids\, singing hits from the popular show Waitress. \nThere is the much anticipated main and silent auctions\, with bespoke ‘money can’t buy prizes’\, along with a truly powerful moment of the evening\, where children’s One True Wishes can be sponsored. This year’s Auctioneer will be the wonderful BBC Flog It’s Thomas Forrester. \nThe evening will culminate in an amazing performance from Nadine\, followed by an upbeat house band to get guests dancing the night away. \nThe Valentine’s Ball is an important part of the charity’s fundraising efforts and has been running for over 15 years. Last year’s event\, formerly known as the Spring Ball\, raised over £300\,000\, and the charity is hoping to exceed it for 2020. This amount helps Make-A-Wish to grant more than 65 children’s magical wishes. \nBetween September 2018 and August 2019\, the charity granted a record number of magical wishes in one year\, reaching over 1\,100 children. However\, every month\, hundreds more children turn to them and their goal is to reach every child that needs a wish. \nA child’s wish is totally unique and magical for them. Whether it’s starring in their own films\, walking with dinosaurs\, going on their first family holiday\, meeting a celebrity hero\, or having a bedroom makeover; wishes are varied\, personal and life changing. Make-A-Wish aims to always go above and beyond the children’s imagination in to granting their extraordinary wishes to very amazing children. Crucial funds raised at the Ball will go towards granting wishes such as Skye’s\, who wished to go to Milan Fashion Week. \nTickets are now available to purchase\, with full information on how to book on the charity’s website. Make-A-Wish looks forward to welcoming you to the Valentine’s Ball\, and thanks you for your support.
