SUMMARY:When you are in a dark room\, you learn to do a simple move: to push the switch and turn on the light… simple\, isn’t it?
DESCRIPTION:For some\, life is an adventure\, a beautiful or challenging one. For others\, it is a simple or complicated journey or a mountain difficult to climb\, and there are those who consider it a miracle regardless of any difficulties or conveniences that may exist.Does the thread of Ariadne\, leading us out of the labyrinth\, exist? And where do the Socratic “know thyself”\, Science\, Art and Philosophy meet our everyday lives? Is the world the way you see it? And what does “see” mean in this instance? And\, in the end… can it be something so simple as pushing the switch and turning on the light in a dark room?Join us to find the answers!Friday 17/11\, 19:15\, at the Hellenic Centre London!Free entry! \n\n\n\nBooking on 07960 797 435 or at info@omilos-eksipiretiton.gr

SUMMARY:Sunday Papers Live #22 Edition
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Papers Live Returns to Offer The Ultimate Sunday Experience: The Broadsheets Brought to Life \n\n\n\nSunday Papers Live returns to London this November\, transforming every section of the beloved broadsheets into live sessions\, from deep discussions to light-hearted repartee\, delivered by various writers\, artists\, and comedians. \n\n\n\nThis event encapsulates the quintessence of a relaxing Sunday. Each element that defines a leisurely Sunday is reimagined and brought to life from reading papers\, savouring food\, playing games\, and unwinding—all under one roof. The speakers\, a closely guarded secret until the week preceding the event\, promise to echo the eclectic allure of predecessors\, including the likes of Rose McGowan\, Ed Miliband\, Anthony Gormley and Jon Snow. \n\n\n\nFor the first time\, Sunday Papers Live will take over the iconic\, rarely open to the public\, Welsh Chapel on Shaftesbury Avenue\, transforming the stunning Grade II listed church into London’s cosiest living room. Attendees can expect the main hall to be filled with comfy couches\, blankets and pillows\, with Bloody Mary bars and an array of comfort food designed to create the ultimate atmosphere for relaxation. Live music and the Ultimate Pub Quiz will bring the halls to life. For those requiring light activity to keep them entertained\, arts and crafts activities will be available.  \n\n\n\n“Great talks\, big cushions\, strange things happening in a lovely room\, a roast lunch – a mix of traditional Britishness and non-traditional oddness that London does so well.” – Jon Ronson \n\n\n\n“Different to anything I’ve seen in London. Smart\, cool\, laid back. Just beautiful.”– Mos Def \n\n\n\nGuests are invited to step into an oasis of comfort\, where attire consisting of PJs and slippers is not just allowed but encouraged. No Sunday would truly be complete without the joyful presence of furry friends\, so pets are welcomed. Wrapped in the warmth of cosy blankets\, Bloody Mary in hand\, attendees will listen to engaging talks by historians\, scientists\, and writers—each contributing to the rich tapestry of the Sunday Papers Live experience.

Three immersive workshops will run throughout\nthe day\, where participants can create bunting and placards that will be displayed in Gabriel’s Wharf\nthroughout September. These workshops will be guided by a local artist as well as spoken word poet\,\nTia Camilleri\, who will help generate powerful messages that add an additional layer of meaning to the\nartwork. \nSaturday 28th September will be focused on live music. In addition to a diverse line-up of\nprofessional musical acts\, including singers\, musicians and bands\, there will also be performances\nfrom a roaming Shakespearean troupe. \nAcross both days\, roaming actors\, musicians (and acrobats from Badoosh circus theatre company)\nwill be bringing Gabriel’s Wharf to life with impromptu performances – delighting guests with surprise\nencounters. DJ duo\, Double Agent 7\, (renowned for playing floor-fillers exclusively on vinyl 45s) will\nensure a vibrant atmosphere while performances from comedians will bring additional smiles and\nlaughter. \nWhilst enjoying the festival\, guests can also browse the independent shops and meet the creative\nmakers who have made Gabriel’s Wharf their home (including Liz and Frances from Potters’ Yard Arts\,\nLisette from Gabu Chocolate\, and a wealth of other artists from Southbank Printmakers and Skylark\nGalleries. \nGabriel’s Wharf Arts Festival is designed to grab attention and bring this often overlooked but beloved\npart of London into the spotlight. With two jam-packed days of creativity\, performance\, and\ncommunity\, it’s the perfect cure for post-Summer Holiday blues that will also give London locals and\nvisitors alike\, a chance to explore a destination they may not even know exists.

SUMMARY:The Poetry Brothel: Feed the fire with my fear
DESCRIPTION:The Poetry Brothel is a sanctuary for the misfits\, the dreamers\, the beautifully strange souls of London. In this idiosyncratic temple\, you’ll encounter a cast of characters birthed from the deepest corners of our poets’ minds. For a modest token\, our poets will invite you into their worlds\, offering a one-on-one experience that is uniquely yours – a taste of genuine connection\, a glimpse into the raw and untamed heart of humanity\, delivered through poetry that is as experimental as it is intimate\, as messy as it is real. \nFEED THE FIRE WITH MY FEAR \nStep into a realm where shadows dance with truth\, and every word peels back the layers of our collective anxieties. At this immersive spoken word event\, poets beckon you into a labyrinth of thought\, where personal and collective dreads intertwine\, where the world and its illusions are delicately unraveled. Here\, fear is both a mirror and a mask—a force that shapes\, binds\, and distorts. Yet\, within the verses lies a challenge: to confront the abyss\, to find authenticity amidst chaos\, and to reclaim the fragmented self. This night is not just a performance but a philosophical journey\, a ritual of words that invites you to question the narratives you hold dear and to discover what lies beyond the veil of fear.

SUMMARY:The Vegan Tigress - London Theatre
DESCRIPTION:A 19th-century feminist fairytale writer accidentally summons a ghost. The spirit is the highly offended mother of the lover the writer spurned years before. The opposing worlds of free spirits and corsets collide… \nClaire Parker’s new play shines a light on Mary De Morgan\, a writer\, a woman of independent means\, a suffragist and an activist. Mary wrote several volumes of fairy tales\, tearing up the rule book on expected outcomes for boys\, girls and happy ever afters. \nShe grew up amongst artists and activists in a circle of free-thinking Pre-Raphaelites and would frequently read her stories to their children. \nThe play celebrates the art and act of storytelling. One of De Morgan’s fantastical tales is woven into this witty reimagining of the moment a formidable ghost from Mary’s past forces her to re-evaluate her own story as she finds herself on the cusp of a life-changing journey. \nAudience Responses \n“fearless theatre in love with storytelling” \n“performances are magnificent and the writing sublime.” \n“full of surprises\, revelation and humour” \n“clever and very moving”

I am passionate to community knowledge production\, co-production\, and participatory methodology as well as grassroot movements promotion. I have become an active member of the community and have led several projects that combine my passion for poetry and LGBTQ+ rights. Seven years ago\, I started Newham Poetry Group\, a grassroot initiative that facilitates access to creative writing for people who speak English as their second or third language as well as engaging with marginalised communities through artistic activities such as open mics\, spoken words or even publishing their own books. \nI also co-founded Queer Newham and Borderless local initiatives that bring visibility to LGBTQ+ issues in my area and support LGBTQ+ refugees. We work closely with the LB Newham\, community groups and neighbours to tackle discrimination\, hate crime and other issues that impact us. Simultaneously\, I founded Casa Sofia in Colombia\, my home country. Casa Sofia is a collective of creative community artists that use artistic approach to connect people\, challenge dispowenred narratives and support local initiatives. \nSimo Lagnawi. Gnawa master Simo Lagnawi is an ambassador of Moroccan culture in London. Each performance is a wholehearted expression of devotion from the UK’s leading Guembri player – a North-African bass instrument constructed from wood and cowhide\, with gut strings. Whether through crossover groups such as Electric Jalaba and the Gnawa Blues All-Stars\, or through hosting traditional ceremonial evenings – known as Lilas – the intention is always to bring the same healing energy through to the fore in each new creation and spread the Gnawa tradition through the UK in the process. \nRoy McFarlane FRSL\nRoy McFarlane is a Poet\, Writer and former Youth & Community Worker born in Birmingham of Jamaican parentage\, spending most of his years living in Wolverhampton and the Black Country and now living in Brighton. He is currently the National Canal Laureate. \nHe’s the former Birmingham Poet Laureate and co-editor of Celebrate Wha? Ten Black British Poets from the Midlands (Smokestack). SUMMARY:FRAME / REFRAME: Zine Making & Inner Weather with Clare Macdonald
DESCRIPTION:Connect with your inner self through guided meditation\, writing\, drawing and zine- making. \nAs we gather in the juniper-infused IMT Gallery\, this workshop offers an opportunity to notice your inner weather and begin to reframe your stories through writing\, meditation\, and zine-making\, setting intentions for the days ahead. \nIn uncertain times\, we carry protective beliefs\, inherited narratives\, and quiet fears. But what happens when we pause to notice these internal frames—and begin to reframe them? \nFRAME / REFRAME is a group workshop that explores fear\, identity\, and perception through zine-making. In a reflective and supportive setting\, we’ll use writing prompts\, folding techniques\, and collage materials to each create an 8-page personal zine. \nNo prior experience in art or meditation is needed. This workshop offers a creative space for playful inquiry\, intuitive process\, and shared reflection. \nDrawing materials will be provided\, but you are welcome to bring any personal materials or collage elements that resonate with you to enrich your experience. \nA selection of herbal teas will be served throughout the evening. \nWhat We’ll Do: \n• We will begin with a guided meditation to check in with our inner state\n• Group writing prompts will help surface subconscious and conscious patterns • Learn to fold and assemble your own 8-page personal zine\n• Explore drawing\, collage\, and layering to express internal themes \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n• A collective reflection on what we have uncovered in the process \nThis workshop is open to all: artists\, writers\, deep feelers\, the zine-curious\, and anyone navigating emotional weather. No experience necessary. \nWhat You’ll Leave With: \n• A handmade 8-page zine capturing part of your inner landscape • A shared experience and creative reflection\n• A new way of seeing and shifting the stories we hold \nAbout Clare Macdonald: \nClare Macdonald is a filmmaker\, writer\, artist\, and educator whose work investigates perception\, language\, and inner states. With over a decade teaching and running workshops on the Architectural Association’s Foundation Course and Visiting Lecturer on the Screenwriting and Filmmaking MA programmes at London Film School\, Clare is a published poet and zine-maker\, member of the Zine You Next Tuesday collective formed from the Royal Drawing School’s Graphic Narratives course\, with three issues in circulation and a fourth forthcoming. \nReserve your spot for now for an evening of inspiration and connection.
