SUMMARY:Blood of My Blood - Photography Exhibition by Magda Kuca
DESCRIPTION:Magda Kuca presents a body of work highlighting the shared histories of photography and medicine at the Old Operating Theatre. \nBlood of My Blood is a multi-faceted project that investigates the link between personal narratives and scientific advancement through a photographic lens. Kuca’s solo exhibition blends in with the surroundings at the former site of both herbal apothecary and early surgical procedures. \nAt the core of the project lies the artist’s response to her mother’s cancer journey. Applying a camera-less form of experimental photography to capture their embracing bodies\, Kuca expresses shared vulnerability while echoing the effects of chemotherapy with the marks and traces left on the resulting image. \nFor a series of wet collodion portraits captured on glass\, and limbs on surgery-grade steel\, Kuca allows the unvarnished surfaces to decompose and tarnish\, repairing deliberate fractures with silver. Still lifes of plague doctor masks provide a link to the healing herbs grown in the museum’s attic. \nThe contemporary works are displayed in cabinets alongside the museum’s main collection. Reminiscent of vintage medical journals\, they evoke a sense of nostalgia while highlighting subsequent progress in overcoming physical injury and infectious disease. \nThe surgeries at the Old Operating Theatre were performed on women without anaesthetics or antiseptics\, in front of a live audience of predominantly male medical students. SUMMARY:Guest House: Unwriting the Artist’s Statement Online Workshop with Elle Reynolds
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a focused\, playful session of conversation\, making\, and discovering your own voice. This workshop creates space to build confidence\, loosen habits around language\, and allow your voice to develop naturally\, staying close to your practice rather than separate from it. \nUnwriting the Artist’s Statement invites you to abscond from International Art English and respond directly to your work. Moving away from the critical language often used to address contemporary art\, this workshop proposes different protocols for speaking about your practice to the world.  \nThrough a series of guided prompts\, improvisation\, and gentle exercises\, participants will work with revision\, association\, and a deliberate quality of randomness to develop ways of using their own voice. The focus is on speaking through the work rather than separating language from practice. \nThis is a supportive space for play\, experimentation\, and discovery. No previous experience or prepared text is needed.  \nThe workshop is hosted by IMT Gallery and led by artist Elle Reynolds\, whose practice works through collaborative processes\, storytelling\, and material experimentation. Her work explores making as a way of thinking together\, with a particular interest in shared authorship\, provisional forms\, and the social life of materials. \nOver the two hours\, you will: \n\nDevelop new ways of talking about your work that feel personal and less rehearsed\nLoosen habits around formal or institutional language\nBuild confidence in speaking and writing about your practice\nGenerate material you can continue to develop after the session\nConnect with others navigating similar questions around language and practice.\n\nAbout Elle Reynolds: \nArtist/scholarresearcherquiet disrupter\, Elle Reynolds has a background in organising practice. She continually challenges traditional institutional structures\, reimagining the use of time and space. Her art making under the pseudonym Guest-Host-Guest includes object installation\, collaborative events\, performative storytelling and interventions that unsettle the notion of archive through spatial exploration\, participation\, and the disruption of academic language. She holds a PhD investigating alternative art school spaces and serves as a Non-Executive Director and Board member of TOMA (The Other MA)\, an alternative art school in Southend-on-Sea\, Essex. Recent projects include workshops for New Contemporaries and Creative Break Time. She is currently Programme Leader of the Graduate Diploma in Art at Goldsmiths. \nThis workshop is open to all: makers\, artists\, writers\, anti-writers\, poets\, curators at any stage of their practice\, and anyone interested in finding alternative ways to speak about their work. Works including painting\, drawing\, ceramics\, sculpture and prints will be exhibited at IMT Gallery in a democratic alphabetical hang\, and made available via an online auction launching to coincide with London Gallery Weekend. Each work will have a starting bid of £50. \nParticipating artists include those IMT has previously collaborated with\, alongside nominations by the gallery’s represented artists David Burrows\, Plastique Fantastique\, Maggie Roberts and Ra Tack\, and curators the gallery has worked with over the years\, including Mark Rohtmaa-Jackson\, Kirsten Cooke and Nicole Sansone. The project reflects on the artists\, conversations and projects that have shaped the gallery over the past two decades\, and offers a wide range of current practices presented by an international community of artists. \nAll works in IMTwentyOne have been kindly donated by the participating artists. DESCRIPTION:Embrace the power of collaborative creation in the second in a series of transformative workshops led by artist duo Georgia Clemson and Lina Ivanova\, hosted by IMT Gallery. In The Museum of Connection\, you are invited to explore the generative possibilities of collectivity through a series of guided creative exercises and to imagine working together as a new way to survive on our damaged planet. \nIn the last decade\, our experience of closeness has radically shifted. Digital interactions\, though abundant\, have left many of us reliant on screens for connection. Georgia and Lina began The Museum of Connection in response to this change\, inspired by Donna Haraway’s term Sympoiesis\, meaning making-with\, a reminder that all creation and survival depend on collaboration. \nThe duo will transform IMT Gallery into a space of encounter\, a shared and fertile ground where real-life connection and creativity can take root. Each workshop in the series will be themed for a collective act: food\, play\, touch\, and movement. For this workshop\, Lina and Georgia invite you to use your whole body to create an image with a difference\, exploring the theme of movement. \nIn this workshop\, we will gather in the gallery to create one-of-a-kind artworks\, both collectively and individually. The event will begin with a specially themed meditation\, written by the artists\, and unfold into writing and drawing games. The primary technique in this event will focus on cyanotypes\, a form of experimental camera-less photography. This technique reduces the image to its fundamental components – light\, shadow and form. The process is unpredictable by nature\, resulting in artworks that record our intentional and incidental marks\, the traces of presence\, sharing\, and interaction. Each image created is ephemeral but can be ‘fixed’ as a lasting memory of the moment. The workshop will culminate in the collaborative creation of a large-scale cyanotype. \nAs a participant\, you will have the opportunity to contribute what you make to the Museum’s growing archive\, as a living monument to community\, built within two fleeting hours\, yet resonant with the lasting memory of connection. \nEach workshop in this series is different\, so if you have joined us before\, you are welcome to join us again. No experience is necessary. Please bring your preferred drawing materials and paper\, additional supplies will also be provided. \nMeet the artists: \nGeorgia\, Clemson\, and Lina Ivanova are London-based artists with fifteen years of combined experience in creative facilitation. They first exhibited together in A Cohesion of Light at Peckham 24 (2021)\, and created The Museum of Connection in 2024. Both artists have a background in experimental photography and make work challenging the conventions of the medium. \nGeorgia’s work has been featured in Source Photographic Review\, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue Italia. Recent exhibitions include The vessel that contains me at Creative Health Camden and Retreat: the UK’s first climate refugees at Middlesex University as part of Barnet Climate Action Month. Lina is a co-founder of Revolv Collective and a recipient of the Turner Contemporary Portfolio Prize. Her work has been exhibited by RPS\, the South Bermondsey Art Trail\, and the Goethe Institut in Bulgaria. It features work that all\, often through degrees of autobiography\, speaks to some of the discordances of being at home: perhaps the anticipation of order amidst the everyday; or an expectation of comfort\, often amidst insecurity or tension. \nThe exhibition is a place where we might live. Often\, when visitors come to this gallery\, they ask her if she lives here. They ask\, “Do you live here?” They ask\, “Are these your cats?” I lived here once too. I don’t anymore. This exhibition is about living somewhere. Perhaps it is about reaching for this thing. \nIn the words of Guest-Host-Guest: ‘Here\, the house is a metaphor for assumed belonging. A place we are expected to be ‘resolved’ or ‘satisfied’\, even when displacement\, precarity\, and contested ownership sit just beneath the surface.’ \nThe exhibition is a hand with a mirror in front of it. The mirror reflects some flowers or a field. Behind the hand is a sky. In front of the sky is a blank\, featureless wall. All these things at various distances from the camera. DESCRIPTION:Centred on Harri Harrison’s sculptural Wands series in the group exhibition The House at IMT Gallery\, this workshop invites a shared evening of wandering\, foraging and making. \nThe workshop begins with a twilight walk through Victoria Park\, led by multimedia artist Harri Harrison. Moving along desire paths\, the group will allow themselves to wander off the obvious routes\, gathering found natural materials along the way. These paths offer a subtle\, gentle form of resistance\, a space for slower attention and observation. \nReturning to IMT Gallery\, we will gather our foraged materials and create our own wands using a combination of carving and binding techniques. The session concludes with a guided meditation and meditative drawing exercise. Together we will explore what it means to hold found natural materials\, noticing how our focus shifts between objects\, ourselves\, and the connections they hold.  \nNo previous experience needed\, and natural materials and tools will be provided. Feel free to bring your preferred drawing materials and any found items you would like to work with\, such as stones\, sticks\, shells\, dried flowers\, wood\, or string for binding. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for walking\, as paths may be slightly muddy. If you have any questions or specific access needs\, please feel free to get in touch. \nAbout Harri Harrison: \nHarri Harrison is a multimedia artist whose practice integrates performance\, text-based projections\, plant-based work\, and alternative photography processes\, engaging directly with urban environments. Suzuki\, Time and Eternity (1956) \nRieko Akatsuka – George Barber – Kaz – Guy Sherwin – Tereza Stehlikova \nFor the 10th anniversary of absolute now\, a group exhibition originally held in Tokyo\, five artists return to explore the enduring paradox of time: the coexistence of the fixed and the fluid\, the eternal and the ever-changing. \nAmong the new works presented\, Czech artist Tereza Stehlikova contributes a video installation that expands on her long-term project 4 Generations of Women (2012). Her piece immerses viewers in a layered reality where personal\, familial\, and more-than-human identities converge. Through the poetic use of moving image\, Stehlíková explores how selfhood is entangled with ancestry\, descendants\, and the natural world — revealing a timeless quality within the rhythms of change. Boundaries dissolve: between mother and daughter\, self and other\, human and non-human\, past and future\, yet something essential endures in the very act of being present. \nAs with the other participating artists\, Stehlikova uses the language of the moving image\, a medium built from stillness in motion\, to question what ‘absolute now’ means in a socio-political context transformed over the past decade. SUMMARY:Sail to Hope – Solo Exhibition by Esra Kizir Gokcen
DESCRIPTION:With Sail to Hope\, Esra Kizir Gokcen presents her response to the far-reaching effects of globalisation. Born from human empathy rather than political drive\, her work questions the hierarchies that place humans above other life forms. \nIn paintings inspired by Eastern miniature art\, natural forces intermingle with crowds of abstract shapes and figures to represent the movements of people and cultures between past and present. Collaged paper boats folded from world maps symbolise the shared humanity of precarious passages too often reduced to numbers in news headlines. \nThe ubiquitous origami vessels also feature in a large-scale multi-media installation at the heart of the exhibition. These were co-created in workshops with diverse community groups. Participants christened each boat with a personal message of hope\, inspiring the exhibition title. A soundscape by Grammy-winning jazz saxophonist Tim Garland complements this collaborative work. \nThe artists have worked together since 2023\, when Garland commissioned Gokcen to create paintings for his orchestral work. Visuals for the current Moment of Departure tour constitute part of this exhibition. Tim Garland will play a selection from his current CD in several intimate concerts on both Saturdays. The afternoon performances will be followed by a Q&A with both artists who believe art can communicate positive messages and elevate the resilience of the human spirit. SUMMARY:Roma Routes - Art\, Identity\, and Expression from Hungary - Free Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Join us on 8 April to mark International Roma Day for Roma Routes\, an evening of photography\, film\, and contemporary art exploring the journeys that shape Roma identity. Bringing together documentary work from a collaborative project in Tiszavasvári\, Hungary\, and artistic reflections by London-based Roma artist Robert Czibi\, the exhibition traces connections between place\, memory\, and belonging. Through images\, stories\, and personal perspectives\, Roma Routes invites audiences to reflect on how identity is shaped between the places we come from and the places we continue to become. \nThis exhibition brings together two intertwined narratives: the story of a segregated Roma community in Tiszavasvári\, and that of an artist born in another Roma neighbourhood in the same region who has carried its memory across borders. \nThe first story is that of collaboration: stepping across internal borders between the countryside and the Hungarian capital\, Budapest\, to involve participants from the Roma neighbourhood of a small town in the North-East of Hungary in a collaborative writing project with local non-Roma residents through the publication of the periodical Duj Dzséne – Ketten – Two Together. \nThe second story is of the artist\, Robert Czibi who crossed internal borders of identity and the physical borders of countries on many occasions before finding his expressive voice in the multiplicity of London’s lingua-culture. The simultaneity of identity as rootedness in Roma origins and identity as motion and interaction with our surroundings is what unites the two narratives that unfold in the images exhibited together. \n\nThe Road Ahead\nDocumentary and Photography Projects from Hungary – Film and photography \nThis photo exhibition was created in collaboration between photojournalist Márton Kállai\, multiple-winner of the Hungarian Press Photo Competition\, and the Tiszavasvári Roma Girls’ Youth Club\, on the initiative of the KRE Linguistic Diversity and Social Participation research group at Károli Gáspár University in Budapest. Together\, Roma and non-Roma participants from Tiszavasvári and Budapest write and publish the journal Duj Dzséne – Ketten – Two Together\, creating a narrative of trust and belonging about Roma futures and the coexistence of Roma and non-Roma in Hungary. The documentary film Duj Dzséne – Ketten – Two Together: Stories of a collaborative journal in support of Roma social participation showcases stages from their journey together: how they forged a collaborative writing and research collective across the borders of identity that separate people living alongside each other. \n\n\nThere I Was Born\, Here I Become\nContemporary Art \nRobert Czibi’s artistic response unfolds as a parallel journey alongside the documentary and the photos. Although Robert’s works reflect his individual journey as a London-based Roma artist from Hungary\, his journey explores the potentialities that open up when collectives or individuals persistently criss-cross and interrogate physical and narrative borders of identity. Through his works\, he returns to the landscapes of his childhood not only to remember\, but to understand how identity is formed between the place of birth and the place of becoming. Through images\, he explores what it means to grow up in a Roma family\, to leave it behind\, and to continue carrying its imprint in his works. SUMMARY:Guest House: Sewing a Palm Tree Workshop with Elle Reynolds
DESCRIPTION:All are invited into the Guest House\, a shared\, temporary workspace formed through collective contribution and the relaxed palava of conversation. You don’t need to sew a palm tree if you don’t want to! \nParticipants are invited to sit together\, sew by hand\, talk\, listen\, share stories\, or simply observe. Some may choose to sew palm trees\, while others may work on repairs\, small tests\, or nothing at all. Conversation\, silence\, and informal knowledge-sharing are all part of the process\, as the work develops slowly and collectively over the session. \nThe workshop is led by artist Elle Reynolds\, whose practice works through collaborative processes\, storytelling\, and material experimentation. Her work explores making as a way of thinking together\, with a particular interest in shared authorship\, provisional forms\, and the social life of materials. \nParticipants will experience sewing as a social and conversational practice\, build confidence working with their hands in a low-pressure environment\, and contribute to a shared\, provisional body of work. The session offers space to reflect on ideas of elsewhere\, slowness\, care\, and collective making\, rather than producing a defined outcome. \nThe Guest House takes place within IMT Gallery’s group exhibition\, The House\, featuring works that all\, often through degrees of autobiography\, speak to some of the discordances of being at home: perhaps the anticipation of order amidst the everyday; or an expectation of comfort\, often amidst insecurity or tension. The exhibition includes Elle Reynolds’ film Morass and sculptural sound piece Black Sun Loungers: The Caribbean Gaze. \nAbout Elle Reynolds: \nArtist/scholarresearcherquiet disrupter\, Elle Reynolds has a background in organising practice. She continually challenges traditional institutional structures\, reimagining the use of time and space. Her art-making under the pseudonym Guest-Host-Guest includes object installation\, collaborative events\, performative storytelling\, and interventions that unsettle the notion of the archive through spatial exploration\, participation\, and the disruption of academic language. She holds a PhD investigating alternative art school spaces and serves as a Non-Executive Director and Board member of TOMA (The Other MA)\, an alternative art school in Southend-on-Sea\, Essex. Recent projects include workshops for New Contemporaries and Creative Break Time. She is currently Programme Leader of the Graduate Diploma in Art at Goldsmiths. \nAll materials including fabric\, threads\, embroidery rings and needles will be provided\, and herbal tea served. It is a space for artists\, aspiring artists and curious people. \n  \nHosted on Zoom\, there will be captions\, text chat and a transcript available. \n  \nDepending on vibes and attendees going forward this virtual art studio can operate like an IRL art studio with plenty of offerings. It can serve as an art tutorial space\, a place to vent\, an organising meeting\, a book club or joint meditation. \n  \nThere will be several break out rooms for quiet body doubling\, solo rooms\, and rooms based on different art mediums such as a writers room and fiber arts room. \n  \nFor the April session I am offering up: \nThe importance of experimenting \n  \nTogether we will explore the following: \n-Resourcefulness and experimentation \n-Examples of experimental approaches in art and culture \n-Brainstorming ways to experiment \n-Methods\, processes and practical creative tips \n  \nThe virtual art studio is space for creative coaching\, experimenting and collaboration. DESCRIPTION:In dialogue with IMT Gallery’s group exhibition\, The House\, Seeing Art With The Whole Body is a movement workshop that invites participants to explore how to listen and receive an artist’s artwork and world through the three-dimensionality of our sensory bodies\, moving away from an ocular-centred understanding of engaging with art. \nLed by movement artist and somatic practitioner Claire Loussouarn\, the workshop asks: how can we engage the whole range of our sensory machine when we come into contact with art and\, in doing so\, reclaim the full ability of our bodies to feel and express themselves in response?  \nAs well as exploring different ways of entering the artworks through movement and spatial awareness\, we will attend to how bodies cross thresholds between private and public space\, between being unseen and being on display\, between dwelling and exhibition. \nNo previous movement experience is required\, just curiosity and a willingness to explore. \nSpace is limited — click below for full workshop details

SUMMARY:Katya Granova - All Our Yesterdays - Art Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:All Our Yesterdays is a solo presentation of recent paintings by Katya Granova curated by Róisín McQueirns. \nGranova’s paintings are informed by found photographs sourced from family albums\, government archives and flea markets. She responds with colour and brushwork to explore the tension between presence and absence on large-scale canvasses. \n“New yesterdays appear every day. Old yesterdays are stored in the dusty depot of unstable human memory\, guarded by forces that can alter them. It sounds like a repressive detention. It sounds like a bright new future. Yesterdays never return from the depot.” \nBorn in the Soviet Union shortly before its collapse\, Granova’s formative years were defined by a constant shift in historical perspectives and contradictions in remembered realities. The subjects in her paintings remain anonymous\, distinction between individual figures\, foreground and background\, deliberately blurred by the artist’s intervention. \nWith the title alluding to both Shakespeare’s Macbeth and an episode of Star Trek\, All Our Yesterdays challenges notions of linear time and the subjectivity of history.

DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the Ghost Objects exhibition\, discover the magic of paper art in a hands-on workshop led by internationally renowned paper artist Annemarieke Kloosterhof\, who will guide you step-by-step through a variety of paper cutting and folding techniques\, as well as collage\, while playing with colour\, composition and texture. \nWhether you’re a seasoned crafter or absolute beginner\, you’ll leave with a beautifully crafted paper keepsake to take home as a miniature artwork or to adorn a truly one-of-a-kind greetings card. \n  \nUseful information: \n\nAll materials are provided.\nThe workshop will take place in the Learning Centre at Leighton House.\nEntry to the museum and exhibitions is included\, allowing you to see Annemarieke’s four Ghost Objects on display in the historic house.\nSpaces are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.\n\n  \nMeet Annemarieke Kloosterhof \nAnnemarieke Kloosterhof is a paper-craft specialist who has created installations for the hit TV show Bridgerton and brands including Viktor & Rolf\, Hermès\, and Bottega Veneta. \n  \nFor updates on all of our upcoming events sign up to our museums e-newsletter
