SUMMARY:13 Native Spirit Festival 12-20 Oct - 24 SNOW / 24 СНЕГА
DESCRIPTION:Director Mikhail Barynin\, 2016\, Yakut language with English subtitles\, Russian Federation\, 1h 30min \nTrailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rB4-DnDpoq \nThe unbearable climate of the Arctic region of Yakutia. Permafrost. For most of the year\, the temperature is below zero and the ground is always cold. \nIn winter\, the temperature drops to minus 65 degrees. There is no telecommunication or electricity\, and the lack of roads hinders transport. Life in this condition means a daily battle with the elements and with yourself. Hundreds of kilometres away from the nearest settlement\, a person can rely only on himself. This severe land attracts people who are looking for freedom and independence. \n24 SNOW tells the story of Sergey\, a horse-breeder who lives most of the year in the tundra looking after the herd. With each year\, Sergey spends more and more time away from the village\, meeting his family just a few times a year for the horse-breeders’ feast and to bring the meat home. Feeling like a stranger in his own home\, Sergey is losing his connection with his family and missing the chance to see how his children to grow up. \nThe exhausting nature of life for the Northern man presents him with the hardest of dilemmas – who he really is.

SUMMARY:DAZZLED
DESCRIPTION:In the shadow of the head-spinning Brexit uncertainty\, this month-long photography exhibition celebrates human values\, diversity and the power of friendship through ten unique portraits. Curated by Vanda Lengyel\, photographed by the Orbital Strangers Project. \nThey say birds of a feather flock together\, just as people who click tend to stick together. With this in mind\, perhaps the best way to introduce someone is through their portraits of close friends. This exhibition not only tells a story about Vanda but about London and the people the city has given her. When she first arrived\, London represented both the unknown and a brand new start. She has lived in many places and travelled all over the world. All of these cities enriched her life in their own way but were unable to offer everything her soul craved. \nLondon is a different case entirely. It is complex\, layered and vast in every sense and immediately puts a newcomer’s openness to the test. It probes your ability to dive into its interconnected layers and experience the hidden insights. It is the lens of the outsider that determines the extent to which they can let the experiences humble them and broaden their horizons. \n“I clearly recall a long walk during my first week in the city. I was heading from Dalston to Clapham on a sunny afternoon when I was suddenly hit by the vastness of London\, the extent of the unknown and the level of my isolation. The city seemed like a glossy bubble with coloured layers clinging together in front of my eyes in the sunshine. Dazzled\, I was determined to become an insider. I dived in…” \nAlthough London is not always an obvious beauty\, it readily gives up its secrets over time if approached with an open heart and mind. Over the past six years\, this melting pot has revealed itself to her through people and their life stories and has given her real friends. When she looks at them\, she sees the stories they shared and the journey that she took\, both physically and emotionally\, that led her to become a Londoner. \nAbout\nVanda Lengyel is a Hungarian project manager and creative producer. She moved to London six years ago. With great passion for people and cultures\, she spends her spare time working on personal projects including exhibitions and coaching for change. \nThe Orbital Strangers Project is a portrait and movie photographer team based in London and Budapest. Csaba Aknay and Gabor Kotschy are regularly commissioned to shoot for advertising and corporate clients\, magazines and movie productions. \nAlthough this is a ticketless event\, registration is essential on Eventbrite. \nPrivate view: 24 October 2019\, 6-9pm. \nVisitor info: open Mon to Fri 9am-5pm\, 25 October – 22 November 2019

SUMMARY:“Postcards to you” Photography Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:“Postcards to you” explores the power of art as a therapy. In this series the artist follows the thread of her own memories and absences by using an assemblage of found imagery depicting family life as a trigger to unlock her own childhood memories. Notably she couples these with text to give strangers personal connotations. Through impressing her own identity\, the artist is able to wistfully convey a feeling of anxiety and loss. The photographs have been buried inferring a lack of control over her personal outcomes\, the contact with soil suggesting the frailty of human life and memory\, reminding us of beginning and end\, death and life and the imminence of passing of time.

SUMMARY:TAC Auction | Lend Your Ears + Open Your Eyes (Art in Music)
DESCRIPTION:“Lend your ears to music\, open your eyes to painting\, and… stop thinking. Just ask yourself whether the work has enabled you to ‘walk about’ into a hitherto unknown world. If the answer is yes…what more do you want?” – Wassily Kandinsky\nOriginal album artwork\, music photography and other visual arts will be brought together in this celebration of the art behind the music industry.\nInspired by Wassily Kandinsky’s passion for the crossover of music and art\, this show will be a moment to celebrate the importance and beauty of the visual arts in the music industry.\nMusicians and artists have collaborated throughout history: James Abbott McNeill Whistler and Claude Debussy\, Marc Chagall and the Ballet Russes\, Salvador Dali and Alice Cooper\, Jay-Z and Marina Abramović\, and countless album artwork collaborations. The visual arts have consistently played a role in promoting and contextualising music performance.\nThis show will shine a light on the collaborations of today. It will be a moment to put the art of the music industry at the front of the stage. It will be a moment to celebrate the beauty and importance of that key creative partner. It will be a moment to lend your ears to music and open your eyes to the visual arts. \nExhibition: 10-16 January | 9am-5pm\nAuction Day: 16 January | 7pm \nThe Auction Collective are also partnering with Art Vinyl to exhibit the 50 finalists of the Best Art Vinyl Award 2019 during the auction.

SUMMARY:To the Edge of the World and back to their Roots
DESCRIPTION:A man and a woman. One year. Three countries. Two reflections on the same narrative through different lenses. \nTo the Edge of the World and back to their Roots is the story of a creative journey conceived in London and developed around the globe. A fashion and art exhibition by a young creative couple – Andrea Vytlačilová\, fashion designer\, and visual artist Josef Zlamal – tackling the quest for identity through a creative voyage. \n\n  \nAfter Creating a winning outfit for Grayson Perry in June 2018\, Andrea Vytlačilová left London to explore the fashion industry working for Acne Studios\, Marc Jacobs and Kenzo fashion houses. Josef Zlamal joined her on the voyage and the duo began creating a body of work as visual mementos of the time spent abroad and of the experiences they were exposed to whilst living and working in Sweden\, the USA and France\, their relocation back to London and their reconnection with their Czech and European identities. \n  \nPrivate View: Friday 20 March 2020\, 6.30 – 8.30 pm\, FREE\, ALL WELCOME\, REGISTER VIA EVENTBRITEExhibition dates: 20 March – 31 May 2020Vitrínka Gallery\, Czech Centre London\, 30 Kensington Palace Gardens\, London W8 4QYOpening hours: Mon – Fri – 10-6\, free entry \n\n  \nAndrea Vytlačilová (*1996)Andrea Vytlačilová is a young fashion designer and Central Saint Martins student\, born in Eastern Bohemia\, whose  work moves between fashion\, textiles\, illustration and photography. She has worked for fashion houses including Acne Studios\, Marc Jacobs and Kenzo. Recently\, she was selected as one of Forbes Czechia’s 30 under 30. Andrea is currently in her final year of studies\, working on her fashion collection and a multidisciplinary project called ‘My Bohemian Tale‘ rediscovering Czech cultural heritage and resurrecting the disappearing textile industry and traditional crafts.www.andreavytlacilova.com \n  \nJosef Zlamal (*1983)Josef Zlamal\, born in Šternberk\, is among the most promising of contemporary Czech artists. His work has been exhibited in the company of both contemporary and classic masters (e.g. Otto Dix\, Lucas Cranach\, Daniel Richter and Marc Quinn)\, in private institutions and  leading public museums (e.g. the Power Station of Art\, Shanghai and the Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig). SUMMARY:Selah Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Excited to announce Selah will be exhibited first in my home city of Liverpool. The exhibition will be displayed on JCDecaux screens in all of the city centre’s mainline train stations from 12th – 19th October 2020. \nThe Hebrew word Selah appears throughout the Book of Psalms. Its precise meaning is mysterious\, but it is interpreted as a pause to breathe and reflect. “It has been my aim throughout the project to attempt to recreate meditative scenes\, directing my subjects to capture the highest moment of drama. \nSelah has found its foundation’s in counter reformation art. “I have been lost in the work of Ribera. His depictions of saints and religious figures\, draw their inspiration directly from Caravaggio’s tenebrism. \nThe exhibition features portraits of well known faces including Sir Patrick Stewart\, Sir Ian McKellen & Dame Judi Dench.

SUMMARY:Justin Edgar: Reasonable Adjustment exhibition - Online exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Please click on the website link to enter this Online Exhibition. In the late 1980s and early 1990s\, disabled activists named Reasonable Adjustment (RAD) fought Margaret Thatcher’s right-wing government and an oppressive medical establishment to gain rights. Regarded as terrorists by some and freedom fighters by others\, their actions included a shooting by blind activists during a live BBC TV broadcast and the bombing of Euston Underground station in protest at a lack of accessible transport. \nIn this exhibition\, Justin Edgar showcases artefacts he has collected over 30 years which document the Reasonable Adjustment movement\, including photographs he took as an art student during the height of their activity in the early 1990’s. The exhibition includes posters\, artefacts and a 1991 television documentary on Reasonable Adjustment previously thought lost\, but recently rediscovered. In the light of nine years of austerity cuts to disabled people\, some might say it’s as though RAD never happened at all. \nJustin Edgar is a Director of 104 Films and one of the UK’s leading Disabled film producers. The Reasonable Adjustment exhibition premiered in January 2020 at the Art House in Wakefield\, but the physical tour has been suspended.

Over 60 original objects and over 80 archival images – many of which have not been displayed before – will take visitors behind the curtain and into the dance studio of one of the world’s greatest dance education organisations. \n\n\n\nThe display opens to the public in the museum’s Theatre and Performance Gallery on 2 December 2020 and runs until 19 September 2021.For more information visit http://www.royalacademyofdance.org/onpoint

SUMMARY:Terra Nexus
DESCRIPTION:Terra Nexus is an immersive experience featuring 25 artists produced by Proposition Studios. First opening at our former site in Peckham in October 2020\, the exhibition has now been reconstructed\, expanded and developed with 3 new installations and a new navigation around a multi-sensory labyrinthine of interconnected artist worlds. Sitting in the heart of 150 artist studios overlooking the Thames\, Terra Nexus presents interwoven immersive environments which reflect on the human relationship with the biosphere set against the backdrop of an ancient metropolis that is reawakening into a new post lockdown reality. \nSpringing from the foundational idea that we need to shift away from a narrative of human dominion and independence in order to protect the biosphere\, Terra Nexus installations explore the necessity of living soil; the perpetual migration of species; the cascading threat of impending extinctions; ways to reconnect with nature; conflict arising from depleted resources; the future of cities and how humans will live within them. From the perspectives of insects and animals\, through the eyes of scientists\, artificial intelligence\, plant life\, ancient cultures and conflicting contemporary viewpoints; Terra Nexus is a wormhole of ideas. \nWarping sensory experiences\, excavating\, weaving between co-existing timelines and suggesting alternative histories; this is the first of a series of immersive projects by Proposition Studios asking the viewer to raise their own questions about THE HUMAN AS PART OF ECOLOGY and what that means today and for future generations. \nIn preparation for this project\, the exhibiting artists took part in an intensive research residency\, visiting sites where human intervention has dramatically increased biodiversity while providing for human needs. Inspired by these projects of experts working to regenerate the biosphere and address global food problems; installations directly reference cutting edge science\, biodiverse agriculture and environmental activism.
