SUMMARY:The Long Play Sessions: Scott Rowley with Stay Alive: The Life and Death of Stuart Adamson
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a powerful and deeply human evening with author and music journalist Scott Rowley as he discusses STAY ALIVE: The Life and Death of Stuart Adamson — the first fully co‑operative and definitive account of the life\, legacy and tragic death of one of Scotland’s most influential and enigmatic musicians. \nThis event is part of The Long Play Sessions\, ICMP’s curated series spotlighting transformative writers\, artists and cultural voices who shape the way we understand music\, identity and creative expression. Each session opens a window into the stories behind the art — blending conversation\, cultural history and lived experience. \nIn STAY ALIVE\, Rowley traces the remarkable rise and haunting decline of Stuart Adamson\, founder of both The Skids and Big Country. Drawing on unprecedented access to Adamson’s family\, bandmates\, private writings and never‑before‑seen material\, Rowley paints a vivid portrait of a man whose talent\, turmoil and working‑class pride helped define a generation of post‑punk and alternative rock. \nFrom the chaotic energy of late‑70s Scotland\, to global fame with Big Country\, to the battles with addiction\, trauma and depression that shadowed his later years\, Rowley’s narrative is unflinching\, tender\, and profoundly revealing. Far more than a music biography\, STAY ALIVE explores the weight of expectation\, the wounds we carry from childhood\, and the quiet struggles that fame can magnify rather than soothe. \nAdamson’s story — tragic\, inspiring and heartbreakingly human — resonates far beyond his era. It asks what it means to be an artist\, a father\, a survivor… and what happens when the world sees only the legend\, not the man. \nWith praise from critics and musicians alike\, this long‑overdue book is already being hailed as a definitive work on one of Scotland’s most compelling creative figures. \nTickets available here and currently on a limited 2-4-1 offer – https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-long-play-sessions-scott-rowley-with-tony-butler-stay-alive-tickets-1987598655082?aff=oddtdtcreator \nPurchase the book here:\nhttps://bit.ly/stayalivescottrowley \nWhat to Expect\n\nA talk from Scott Rowley exploring the making of STAY ALIVE\, the revelations uncovered\, and the emotional weight of telling Adamson’s story\nIn‑depth discussion of creativity\, trauma\, addiction\, fame\, and the pressures placed on artists in the post‑punk and alternative rock scenes\nBehind‑the‑scenes insight into Rowley’s research\, interviews and unprecedented access to Adamson’s family and archives\nReflections on legacy\, working‑class identity and how one man’s music resonated across generations\nAudience Q&A\, offering the chance to engage directly with Rowley about Adamson’s life\, the writing process and the cultural impact of The Skids and Big Country\nBook signing — bring your copy or purchase one at the event\n\nWe look forward to welcoming you to The Long Play Sessions for a moving\, honest and unforgettable evening centred on one of Scotland’s most important — and most misunderstood — musical icons. \n\n\n\nLocation\nThe Venue\, ICMP (Queens Park Campus)\, NW6 6PA

SUMMARY:The Long Play Sessions: Dan Jennings with Paul Weller Dancing Through the Fire
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an intimate and expansive evening with award‑winning broadcaster and journalist Dan Jennings\, as he discusses DANCING THROUGH THE FIRE: The Authorised Oral History of Paul Weller\, the first fully authorised and definitive oral account of one of Britain’s most influential and enduring musical figures. \nThis event forms part of The Long Play Sessions\, ICMP’s curated series celebrating transformative writers\, artists and cultural voices who shape how we understand music\, identity and creative expression. Each session opens a window into the stories behind the art — blending conversation\, cultural history and lived experience. \nHosting the evening will be acclaimed author Daniel Rachel and joining as a guest will be Go! Discs founder Andy Macdonald. \nIn DANCING THROUGH THE FIRE\, Jennings traces the extraordinary creative life of Paul Weller\, from the explosive urgency of The Jam\, through the ambitious sophistication of The Style Council\, to a prolific and uncompromising solo career spanning more than three decades. Built from over 200 hours of interviews with more than 250 contributors\, including Weller himself; the book offers an unprecedented\, collective portrait of a musician whose influence has defined generations. \nDrawing on unique access to Weller’s inner circle of family\, friends\, bandmates\, producers and collaborators\, Jennings reveals the drive\, discipline and restless creativity behind a career that continually resisted nostalgia and commercial complacency. The result is candid\, generous and richly revealing — capturing not just the myth\, but the man at the centre of one of British music’s most remarkable artistic journeys. \nFar more than a standard biography\, DANCING THROUGH THE FIRE explores the realities of longevity\, reinvention and creative survival. It reflects on class\, culture\, fandom and the personal cost of sustaining artistic integrity in the public eye\, while charting how Weller became one of the very few artists to achieve Number One albums across five consecutive decades. \nPaul Weller’s story — creative\, uncompromising and continually evolving\, speaks to anyone who cares about music as a cultural force. It asks what it takes to remain vital\, curious and true to yourself when the world expects you to stand still. \nAlready hailed by critics as a landmark work of music journalism\, DANCING THROUGH THE FIRE is being recognised as the definitive account of one of Britain’s greatest artists. \nTickets available here and currently on a limited 2-4-1 offer – https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-long-play-sessions-dan-jennings-paul-weller-dancing-through-the-fire-tickets-1987599404323?aff=oddtdtcreator \nWhat to Expect\n\nA talk from Dan Jennings exploring the making of DANCING THROUGH THE FIRE\, the interview process\, and the challenge of capturing a living legend through many voices\nIn‑depth discussion of creativity\, longevity\, reinvention and artistic integrity across five decades of British music\nBehind‑the‑scenes insight into Jennings’ unprecedented access to Paul Weller and his closest collaborators\nReflections on class\, fandom\, cultural legacy and why Weller’s music continues to resonate across generations\nAudience Q&A\, offering the chance to engage directly with Jennings about his research\, the writing process and Paul Weller’s cultural impact\nBook signing — bring your copy or purchase one on the night\n\nWe look forward to welcoming you to The Long Play Sessions for a thoughtful\, energising and unforgettable evening celebrating one of modern music’s most vital and uncompromising creative figures. \n\n\n\nLocation\nThe Venue\, ICMP (Queens Park Campus)\, NW6 6PA

SUMMARY:Alkanna Graeca: live at The Jazz Cafe - Jazz Concert 19/05/26
DESCRIPTION:Alkanna Graeca is a vocal trio weaving Balkan folk traditions with free improvisation and expansive soundscapes. Formed by Dunja Botic\, Alexandra Achillea\, and Irini Arabatzi\, they channel the heritage of their homelands into a ritualistic exploration of voice—songs carrying mountain echoes\, stripped bare\, reshaped\, and reborn\, blurring past and present. \nIrini’s voice\, shaped by her Greek roots\, jazz and South American influences\, has taken her to international stages. Dunja\, a Serbian-Greek singer and actress\, moves seamlessly between theatre and music\, drawing inspiration from Maqam and jazz. Alexandra’s background in classical\, folk\, and experimental music has carried her from opera houses to underground scenes. Together\, they create a sound that is earthy\, timeless\, and steeped in tradition—stripped bare\, transformed\, and reborn through improvisation. \n  \nMusic for London is one of the premier Jazz Band booking agencies in London for concerts\, parties and events

SUMMARY:The Long Play Sessions: Lloyd Bradley – Funk Is Its Own Reward
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special evening with Lloyd Bradley\, acclaimed music journalist and cultural historian\, as he discusses his seminal book Funk: Is Its Own Reward\, one of the most definitive explorations of funk music and its enduring cultural impact. \nThis event forms part of The Long Play Sessions\, a curated series hosted by ICMP celebrating influential writers who have shaped how we understand music\, culture and history. Each session brings books to life through live conversation\, context and deep creative insight. \nIn Funk: It’s Its Own Reward\, Bradley traces the evolution of funk from its roots in soul\, jazz and gospel to its explosive influence on hip hop\, electronic music and contemporary pop. More than a genre study\, the book examines funk as a philosophy — a sound rooted in liberation\, identity\, resistance and collective joy. \nDrawing on interviews\, cultural analysis and lived experience\, Bradley explores artists such as James Brown\, Parliament-Funkadelic\, Prince and Sly Stone\, while also unpacking funk’s political power\, its connection to Black identity\, and its role as a radical\, community-driven form of expression. \nBoth scholarly and deeply human\, the book positions funk not just as music you dance to\, but as a worldview — one that celebrates groove\, individuality and freedom on its own terms. \nTickets available here and currently on a limited 2-4-1 offer – https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-long-play-sessions-lloyd-bradley-funk-is-its-own-reward-tickets-1987743069028?aff=oddtdtcreator \n\n\nWhat to expect \n\nAn in-depth talk with Lloyd Bradley on the ideas and stories behind Funk: It’s Its Own Reward\nDiscussion on funk’s musical\, cultural and political legacy\nInsights into music journalism\, cultural writing and storytelling\nAudience Q&A\nBook signing opportunity — bring your copy or purchase one on the night\n\nWe look forward to welcoming you to The Long Play Sessions for an enlightening and groove-filled evening with one of the UK’s most respected voices in music writing.

SUMMARY:The Long Play Sessions: A Sound So Very Loud • The story of Oasis with Ted Kessler and Hamish MacBain
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an unmissable night celebrating the music\, madness\, and enduring legacy of Oasis — one of Britain’s most explosive and influential bands.\nThrough the lens of A Sound So Very Loud — the definitive new book by acclaimed music journalists Ted Kessler and Hamish MacBain — this immersive evening dives deep into the songs\, stories\, and chaos that defined a generation. \nThe evening will be hosted by Daniel Rachel\, former musician-turned-award-winning and bestselling author whose previous works include: Isle of Noises: Conversations with Great British Songwriters\, Walls Come Tumbling Down: The Music & Politics of Rock Against Racism\, 2 Tone and Red Wedge and most recently This Ain’t Rock ‘n’ Roll: Pop Music\, The Swastika and The Third Reich (nominated for The Penderyn Music Book prize). \nTickets available here and currently on a limited 2-4-1 offer – https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-long-play-sessions-live-forever-the-story-of-oasis-tickets-1984712337027?keep_tld=true \nThe night includes:\n🎤 Book Talk & Q&A\nGo behind the music with two writers who were there from the start. From Supersonic to Champagne Supernova\, uncover the real stories behind Oasis’s biggest hits and the creative friction that made them legendary. Signed copies of A Sound So Very Loud will be available for purchase. \n🎧 Listening Party\nLose yourself in the anthems\, deep cuts\, and hidden gems that shaped the Britpop era. Expect nostalgia\, sing-alongs\, and maybe even a surprise or two. \n👥 About the Authors\nHamish MacBain\nA former writer at NME from 2004 to 2010\, MacBain had a front-row seat to the breakup of Oasis. He penned the words in the band’s final official tour programme and was en route to review their last UK show when it was cancelled. He co-authored Any Road Will Get Us There (If We Don’t Know Where We’re Going) with Noel Gallagher in 2018\, and his sleevenotes for the Be Here Now reissue were featured in the Chasing the Sun: 1993–1997 Oasis exhibition. \nTed Kessler\nKessler was on staff at NME from 1993 to 2003 before joining Q magazine\, where he worked for sixteen years\, including four as editor. He first interviewed Oasis in 1994 around their debut single Supersonic\, and his final interview with the band was in Amsterdam in 2009\, just before their split. Since then\, he’s written five Liam Gallagher cover interviews and remains one of the most trusted voices on the band’s legacy. \nThe Long Play Sessions\nThis event forms part of The Long Play Sessions\, a curated series hosted by ICMP celebrating some of the most influential voices writing about music today. Each session goes beyond the page\, offering live conversation\, cultural context and creative insight into the stories that shape music history. \nWe look forward to welcoming you to The Long Play Sessions for an essential evening exploring one of the loudest\, boldest and most influential moments in British music history.

SUMMARY:«stadtklang» w/ LILY LYONS | Live @ Ruby Lucy London
DESCRIPTION:LILY LYONS \nLily searches for truth in her music\, exploring simple things that are easily forgotten – not revolutionary\, but the everyday beauty and tragedy of relationships. Each track that Lily writes is a beautiful vignette capturing her experiences so far\, with perceptive lyrics delivered in an elegant voice that could easily sit among the greats. \nAs she started gigging\, turning up to open mics and small shows multiple times a week\, Lily became more in tune with the things she wanted to say in her songs. Using her songwriting to figure out who she is and how she wants to live her life\, Lyons hopes that\, in turn\, her listeners will find the encouragement to “reflect on themselves and feel positive about tomorrow”. \nThursday 28th of May 2026 um 20 Uhr\nRuby Lucy Hotel & Bar\nLower Marsh\nSE1 7RA London

SUMMARY:Beethoven Unwrapped: Pastoral - Classical Concert
DESCRIPTION:Birdsong\, rushing streams\, countryside dances and a musical thunderstorm: join London Incidental Orchestra for Beethoven Unwrapped: Pastoral\, a relaxed\, story-led classical concert at the beautiful St Gabriel’s Church in Pimlico. \nThis is Beethoven for the curious. Before performing Symphony No. 6\, “Pastoral”\, in full\, conductor Alexander Conway will guide the audience through the music\, revealing the stories\, natural imagery\, structure and hidden details behind one of Beethoven’s most loved works. \nExpect live demonstrations from the orchestra\, humour\, context and a warm\, informal atmosphere. There is no dress code\, and no prior classical knowledge is needed. Whether you are a regular concert-goer or completely new to classical music\, this is a fresh\, friendly and accessible way to experience Beethoven live. \nThe evening opens with Beethoven’s dramatic Egmont Overture\, followed by an Unwrapped introduction to the Pastoral Symphony and a full performance by the London Incidental Orchestra’s 40-piece orchestra. \nThere will also be an audience-conductor raffle in support of Mind UK\, giving one audience member the chance to take centre stage and conduct the orchestra. \nA well-stocked bar will be available before the concert\, during the interval and after the performance. \nPrevious LIO concerts have been described as having “the energy of a comedy set mixed with a live gig and a dash of a history lesson thrown in”. After a previous Beethoven concert\, John Suchet of Classic FM said: “It’s hard to do anything original with Beethoven… but you’ve managed it!” \nAll profits go to Mind UK\, working to make sure nobody has to face a mental health problem alone. \nYou can book classical ensembles in London for recitals and private events in London.

SUMMARY:Gothic Opera presents: Die Rheinnixen
DESCRIPTION:Unconventional opera company Gothic Opera returns to Battersea Arts Centre this Halloween\, this time with the UK staged premiere of Die Rheinnixen (The Nixies of the Rhine)\, an unjustly neglected\, Romantic work by Jacques Offenbach. \nDie Rheinnixen\, which is Offenbach’s first take on grand opera\, encompasses the growing nationalism of its time\, as well as the genre’s fascination with the supernatural. Gothic Opera is delighted to be staging this horror story for the first time in the UK. \nIn the capable hands of the award-winning international stage director Max Hoehn\, the evocative crumbling architecture of Battersea Arts Centre’s Grand Hall will be transformed into the time of the Weimar Republic\, a period of nationalism and unease. \nIn a bold production that will speak to our current times\, Gothic Opera will be joined by exciting conductor Hannah von Wiehler\, who has a very busy career across Europe. Leon Haxby\, the young composer whose previous work for the company was praised in Opera magazine for its “haunting magic” and “compassionate insight\,” has created a new chamber orchestration of the opera for seven instruments. A cast of talented singers will bring the characters and story to life. \nDie Rheinnixen performance details:\n30th October\, 7.30pm\n31st October\, 7.30pm\n1st November\, 7.30pm\n2nd November\, 5.00pm \nSung in German with English surtitles.
