SUMMARY:What Nature Tells Me – Orchestra for the Earth
DESCRIPTION:What Nature Tells Me\n\n\nAlpine Tour Launch Concert\n\n\n\n\nSaturday 20 June 2026 · 7.30pm \nSt John’s Waterloo\, SE1 8TY \nPublic booking is open. \nPrice – Pay what you can (suggested: £15) \nOrchestra for the Earth launches its 2026 Alpine Tour\, What Nature Tells Me\, with a London concert at St John’s Waterloo on Saturday 20 June\, before travelling by train and coach to Austria for a series of performances and education projects in places closely connected to Gustav Mahler’s life and music. \nNow in its ninth year\, the Alpine Tour has become one of the orchestra’s defining projects: an ongoing exploration of the relationship between music\, landscape and listening\, centred on Mahler and the Alpine environments in which much of his music was conceived.\nThe 2026 programme\, What Nature Tells Me\, traces a single musical arc through Mahler’s life\, from the freshness and folk-like early songs to the profound stillness of ‘Der Abschied’ (‘The Farewell) from Das Lied von der Erde (‘The Song of the Earth’). The London concert features\nrising British baritone Michael Lafferty\, with Mahler’s works arranged for chamber orchestra by conductor John Warner. \nThe programme also includes the world premiere of Eat Your Rage\, a new commission by London-based composer Zhenyan Li\, whose work has been performed by ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra and Ensemble Modern. The commission is a response to Mahler’s musical evocations of nature and forms part of OE’s ongoing commitment to placing new music alongside established repertoire within the same artistic and environmental context. \nFollowing the London launch\, the orchestra travels to Austria from 22–26 June\, including a performance at the Gustav Mahler Festival in Steinbach am Attersee\, where Mahler spent several summers composing\, and a concert on an open-air stage in Steinach am Brenner\, another\nplace closely associated with his summer retreats. When Bruno Walter visited Mahler in Steinbach in 1896\, he marvelled at the surrounding landscape. Mahler replied simply: “No need to look around — I have already composed it all.” The Alpine Tour returns that idea to its source\, placing the music back into dialogue with the\nenvironments that helped shape it. \nMarina Mahler\, Founding Patron of Orchestra for the Earth\, said: “It is deeply moving to see my grandfather’s music brought back into the landscapes that inspired it\, and to see young people included in that experience. This kind of thoughtful\, living engagement with Mahler’s work is both true to its origins and urgently relevant now.” \nWhat Nature Tells Me takes place at St John’s Waterloo\, London\, on Saturday 20 June 2026 at 7.30pm. \nLondon is the home to several dynamic String Ensembles\, including soloists and String Quartets. They are available for hire from Music for London.

SUMMARY:Carey Tan Original Symphonic Works Concert
DESCRIPTION:Winner of both King’s and Music Scholarships at Eton College\, Carey Tan brings his original symphonic music with London City Philharmonic Orchestra. \n12 international composition awards\, Epic symphonic music exploring nature\, war\, AI and the future of humanity. \nRoyal College of Music · Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall\n21 June 2026 · 14:00 \nA CONCERT ABOUT OUR TIME \nOn 21 June 2026\, a concert devoted entirely to the original symphonic works of Carey Tan will take place at the Royal College of Music — an afternoon that asks\, with urgency and imagination\, what the modern world sounds like when transformed into music. \nThis is far more than a showcase of precocious talent. It is a full-length symphonic portrait by a 12-year-old composer whose music engages directly with some of the defining questions of our age: nature\, war\, artificial intelligence\, and the future of humanity. \nPerformed by the London City Philharmonic Orchestra\, with Carey himself on stage throughout — as pianist\, marimbaist\, and the artistic voice behind every note. \nABOUT THE COMPOSER \nCarey Tan is a 12-year-old composer and multi-instrumentalist\, and a recipient of both the King’s Scholarship and Music Scholarship at Eton College. He has long focused on the creation of large-scale orchestral works\, distinguished by expansive structures\, clear narrative direction\, and profound intellectual depth. His music transforms philosophical reflection\, scientific imagination\, and a concern for contemporary realities into a symphonic language of striking modern expressiveness. With a creative vision of remarkable maturity and individuality\, he is increasingly attracting attention within the international classical music world. \nABOUT THE ORCHESTRA \nThe London City Philharmonic Orchestra presents symphonic and operatic repertoire in major UK and international venues. The orchestra is committed to supporting contemporary music and new large-scale works\, regularly collaborating with emerging composers and soloists. \nOlsi Qinami is Principal Conductor and Music Director of the London City Philharmonic Orchestra\, Conductor with the National Radio Television Orchestra of Albania\, and Professor of Conducting at the University of Arts in Tirana. He conducts widely across Europe and maintains a strong commitment to contemporary orchestral repertoire. \nTickets:  https://careytan.eventbrite.co.uk

SUMMARY:Marmalade and Masquerades - Live Performance with Narration
DESCRIPTION:Marmalade and Masquerades \nAndré Caplet: Conte Fantastique (1922) after Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death\, for harp\, narrator and string quartet. Story adapted by Erin Muldoon. \nHerbert Chappell: Paddington’s First Concert (mid-1970s)\, arranged for the same ensemble by Roger Montgomery. \nTravel from the familiar warmth of 32\, Windsor Gardens\, home to London’s favourite bear\, into the shadowy world of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death. This imaginative programme brings together two contrasting tales\, showing how music can express both light and dark\, comfort and mystery. \nThrough engaging live performance with narration\, children and families will discover how composers use sound to tell stories. Some feel cosy\, playful\, and curious. Others are dramatic\, eerie and full of suspense. Each invites listeners to picture characters\, places and emotions in their own way. \nOn one side\, Paddington Bear’s world is brought to life through music that celebrates kindness\, humour and small everyday adventures. On the other hand\, André Caplet’s Conte Fantastique draws us into a darker\, more mysterious atmosphere\, inspired by Poe’s haunting tale of Prince Prospero’s abbey. \nPlaced side by side\, these works reveal how music can spark imagination across very different moods and stories. Together\, they offer a rich and memorable introduction to the power of musical storytelling. \nTo Hire String Quartets  & Harpists in London for Private and Corporate Events\, visit Music for London.

SUMMARY:Tales of Passion and Joy - Concert - Piano Quintets
DESCRIPTION:Vaughan Williams: Piano Quintet in C minor \nSchubert: Piano Quintet in A major D. 667 “The Trout” \nThis programme pairs the Piano Quintet in C minor by Ralph Vaughan Williams with the Piano Quintet in A major\, D. 667 (“Trout”) by Franz Schubert\, offering a focused exploration of how composers have reimagined the piano quintet across time. \nSchubert’s “Trout” Quintet (1819) is notable for its unusual scoring\, replacing the second violin with double bass. This creates a lighter\, more transparent texture and allows the piano to function as an equal partner rather than a dominant voice. The famous variation movement on his song Die Forelle reflects Schubert’s gift for lyricism and clarity of form. \nVaughan Williams’ Piano Quintet (1903) adopts the same instrumentation but produces a markedly different sound world. Richer and more expansive in texture\, it reflects his early engagement with late Romantic style alongside emerging traits of his mature voice\, including modal harmony and broad\, song-like themes. \nTogether\, these works highlight both continuity and contrast: a shared interest in instrumental balance\, but distinct approaches to texture\, form\, and pastoral expression. Schubert’s music evokes lightness and movement\, while Vaughan Williams offers a more reflective and spacious soundscape. Heard side by side\, they present the piano quintet as a flexible and evolving genre. \n  \nClassical Concert Pianists are available for private recitals in London & the rest of the UK via Music for London.

SUMMARY:The Long Play Sessions: Paul Sexton with Rock Goes to College (Special performance from Freya Everest)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special evening with Paul Sexton\, acclaimed music journalist\, author and broadcaster\, as he explores his latest book Rock Goes to College — the definitive\, untold story of the UK university gig circuit that launched a generation of legendary artists. With an opening performance by talented singer-songwriter Freya Everest\, this one is not to be missed!  \nIn Rock Goes to College\, Sexton traces the rise of Britain’s student gig circuit during the late 1960s and 1970s. This grassroots touring network became a proving ground for emerging artists during the explosion of rock music and the album era. As new universities and polytechnics opened across the UK\, bands criss-crossed the country in battered vans\, playing student unions\, honing their sound and chasing the dream of a record deal. \nDrawing on extensive original interviews and his unrivalled access to artists and industry figures\, Sexton tells remarkable early-career stories of acts including Pink Floyd\, Led Zeppelin\, The Who\, Queen\, Elton John\, Fleetwood Mac\, Genesis\, Nick Drake\, AC/DC and Dire Straits — as well as the student promoters and social secretaries who booked them\, many of whom would go on to shape the modern music industry themselves. The book also reveals how Paul McCartney and Wings returned to this circuit post-Beatles to road-test a new band from the ground up. \nPart music history\, part social history\, Rock Goes to College captures a vital moment when higher education\, youth culture and live music collided — shaping careers\, communities and the future of British rock. \nWhat to expect\n\nAn in-depth conversation with Paul Sexton on the stories and research behind Rock Goes to College\nInsight into the UK’s university gig circuit and its role in developing iconic artists\nDiscussion on music journalism\, biography and documenting cultural history\nAudience Q&A\nA live and intimate acoustic performance from Freya Everest\nBook signing opportunity — bring your copy or purchase one on the night\n\nWe look forward to welcoming you to The Long Play Sessions for an entertaining\, insightful and nostalgia-rich evening uncovering one of the most influential — and least documented — chapters in British music history. \nAbout The Long Play Sessions\nThis event forms part of The Long Play Sessions\, a curated series hosted by ICMP Music School\, celebrating influential writers whose work has shaped how we understand music\, culture and creative history. Each session brings landmark books to life through live conversation\, historical context and deep industry insight.

SUMMARY:Nine Sixteenths - London Theatre
DESCRIPTION:At the end of a 25-date UK tour\, the fast\, fun multimedia theatre show Nine Sixteenths\, inspired by the media rise\, fall and rise again of Janet Jackson\, is set for a run at Brixton House\, 19-30 May \n  \nAt the 2004 Super Bowl\, Justin Timberlake exposed Janet Jackson’s breast and nipple to a huge live TV audience for nine sixteenths of a second. This brief moment derailed Jackson’s career for many years\, while Timberlake’s thrived. \n  \nNine Sixteenths unpacks the rise\, fall\, and rise again of global pop superstar Jackson\, and what this says about how black women are treated by the media. Created by artist/theatre-maker Paula Varjack\, it explores coming of age in the 1990s and the hugely influential role Jackson played\, especially for young black women. It’s fast\, fun and hugely entertaining – the venue and audience are transported to a world of stadium concerts and TV studios. It takes the audience on a journey\, exploring themes of representation and pop culture with a nostalgia for the early 00’s\, and the hopes and dreams of four black female performers through a visual variety of devised theatre\, dance\, and lip-sync. \n  \nIt amply demonstrates how Jackson helped shape our contemporary cultural landscape\, paving the way for artists such as Britney Spears\, Beyoncé\, and Rihanna\, and shows how a struggling video-sharing site called YouTube began attracting clicks when it became the place to rewatch the incident! \n  \nThe tour took in cities including Manchester\, Leeds\, Bristol\, Coventry\, Wolverhampton\, Leicester\, Brighton\, Nottingham\, Oxford and many more. \n  \nPaula said ‘Janet Jackson was a tremendous icon to me at a time when I had relatively few black female artists to look to. She was a game changer in so many ways – and did it on her terms. After her ‘wardrobe malfunction’\, the music industry let her down in ways so effective that many thought her career faded away. Yet she kept working\, making music and films. Now\, finally\, the injustice of what happened is being recognised. In the end\, it’s the art that matters. As an iconic role model for many black women and an outspoken ally for the LGBTQI+ community\, she made great art. The show also looks at why role models matter and the lack of older female role models of colour\, and the role that (largely) white male media executives play in deciding who thrives in mainstream pop culture. \n  \nWho was invested in the backlash and became obsessed with blocking Jackson’s success? Who joked over her humiliation? How have all those involved profited since? \n  \nAll dates feature British Sign Language by Jacqui Beckford and Vinessa Brant as an integral part of the production.

DESCRIPTION:LILY LYONS \nLily searches for truth in her music\, exploring simple things that are easily forgotten – not revolutionary\, but the everyday beauty and tragedy of relationships. Each track that Lily writes is a beautiful vignette capturing her experiences so far\, with perceptive lyrics delivered in an elegant voice that could easily sit among the greats. \nAs she started gigging\, turning up to open mics and small shows multiple times a week\, Lily became more in tune with the things she wanted to say in her songs. SUMMARY:Colin Blunstone: Believe In Miracles Tour
DESCRIPTION:Colin Blunstone\, lead singer of The Zombies and acclaimed Solo Artist\, returns to UK stages with the “Believe In Miracles” Tour\, his first national solo outing in 7 years.  The tour title is a nod to Blunstone’s 1972 hit “I Don’t Believe In Miracles” (penned by Argent singer/guitarist Russ Ballard)\, but is also a reflection on his remarkable 7-decade career.  Blunstone relates\, “I joined The Zombies as a teen\, thinking it would be a two or three-year adventure.  Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined it would lead to a lifetime in music…and that at the tender age of 80\, I’d be the subject of a documentary\, recording a new album and embarking on a major tour!  His career-spanning show will feature classics from The Zombies\, favourites from his solo releases and collaborations\, and debut new material from his forthcoming studio album.   \nThe Bangles’ Susanna Hoffs said it best during her heartfelt speech inducting The Zombies into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in March 2019:  “Colin…your voice is just plain sexy!” \nThe world first fell in love with that mysteriously silky voice from The Zombies’ 1960s singles “She’s Not There”\, “Tell Her No” and “Time of the Season”.  The band’s untimely demise in late 1967 led Blunstone into a solo career which began in earnest with the release of the lush and string-laden One Year in 1971\, produced by former Zombies’ bandmates Rod Argent and Chris White\, which scored him a Top 15 UK hit with Denny Laine’s “Say You Don’t Mind”.  He has released 10 albums of his own over a period spanning more than 50 years\, including 1972’s Ennismore and 1974’s Journey\, and has lent his remarkable pipes to the recordings of many others\, most notably the Alan Parsons Project\, who featured Blunstone on their 1982 hit “Old and Wise\,” as well as on several albums.  \nA chance reunion with Rod Argent in 1999 brought about a 25-year resurgence for The Zombies\, prolifically touring the world and releasing new material.  In the midst\, Blunstone still managed to record three solo releases – The Ghost Of You And Me in 2009\, On The Air Tonight in 2012 and most recently\, the EP Less is More in early 2024\, a set of 5 sparsely-recorded demos showcasing those velvety vocals accompanied only by acoustic guitar. \nBlunstone celebrated his 80th birthday in June at the London premiere of Hung Up On A Dream: The Zombies Documentary\, the first-ever feature film chronicling the band’s journey from teenage friends to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees (now available on AppleTV and Amazon).   \nWith Argent’s retirement for health reasons in 2024\, Blunstone is refocusing on his solo career while also continuing to celebrate the legacy of The Zombies.  A new album is planned for release in 2026.

DESCRIPTION:Alkanna Graeca is a vocal trio weaving Balkan folk traditions with free improvisation and expansive soundscapes. Formed by Dunja Botic\, Alexandra Achillea\, and Irini Arabatzi\, they channel the heritage of their homelands into a ritualistic exploration of voice—songs carrying mountain echoes\, stripped bare\, reshaped\, and reborn\, blurring past and present. \nIrini’s voice\, shaped by her Greek roots\, jazz and South American influences\, has taken her to international stages. Dunja\, a Serbian-Greek singer and actress\, moves seamlessly between theatre and music\, drawing inspiration from Maqam and jazz. Alexandra’s background in classical\, folk\, and experimental music has carried her from opera houses to underground scenes. SUMMARY:Jazz in the House: Henry Lowther’s Still Waters
DESCRIPTION:Henry Lowther’s Still Waters brings together five exceptional voices in British jazz for an evening of original music shaped by decades of musical friendship and collaboration.\nFormed from a close association spanning more than 40 years between bassist Dave Green and trumpeter Henry Lowther\, Still Waters is a band built on trust\, creativity and deep musical understanding. Though rooted in the classic quintet tradition\, their music ranges widely\, from gentle\, lyrical and pastoral pieces to dynamic\, free-flowing improvisation\, with an emphasis on interplay and collective expression. \nThe ensemble features Pete Hurt on tenor saxophone\, Barry Green on piano\, Dave Green on bass\, Paul Clarvis on drums and Henry Lowther on trumpet\, five of the UK’s most respected jazz musicians. Together\, they create performances defined by adventure and spontaneity\, where no two concerts are ever the same. \nPraised as “pretty well flawless” in live performance\, Henry Lowther’s Still Waters offers a rare chance to hear one of British jazz’s most revered trumpeters alongside an outstanding and deeply connected ensemble. \n“Meltingly attractive solos\, startling originality.” Chris Parker\, Vortex review. \n  \nProgrammed by Blow the Fuse \n\n\n\n\nPerformers\n\nPete Hurt – tenor saxophone\nBarry Green – piano\nDave Green – bass\nPaul Clarvis – drums\nHenry Lowther – trumpet \n\nTickets \nStandard £15.50\nUnwaged Concession £12.50\nUnder 35s Concession £8 \nPlease note that all tickets\, including tickets purchased on the door\, are subject to a £1.50 booking fee. \nLondon’s Jazz Bands

SUMMARY:ARTIFICIAL GO + NO PEELING
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nARTIFICIAL GO\nNO PEELING\nWednesday 13 May\nNew River Studios\, 199 Eade Rd\, Harringay\, London\, N4 1DN\n7.30pm | £10 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/P1af2a986141 \nARTIFICIAL GO hail from Cincinnati\, USA\, and bring the beat to life with their New / No / Whatever Wave weirdness! Last year\, they released ‘Musical Chairs’\, building on 2024’s ‘Hopscotch Fever’\, an album of ten existential post-punk chamber pop tracks. Recorded at Lambda Research and the haunted attic of the band’s house\, the core trio of Angie Willcutt\, Micah Wu\, and Cole Gilfilen have traded the sparse jangle of their debut for a broader\, fuller sound. ‘Musical Chairs’ deftly meshes the angular excitability of ‘Hopscotch Fever’ with a spectral warmth and expensiveness able to encompass acoustic guitars\, Wu’s almost metaphysical funk bass lines\, tape loops and blips and bleeps\, a guest spot by Eric Dietrich (of The Drin and Sorry Eric) on saxophone\, and Gilfilen’s hip moving boom-bap drumming add to the excitement. \nIn Willcutt’s hands\, the struggles\, and at times terrors\, of our current age are playfully subverted with agile world play and dynamic vocalization that moves from sweet and dreamy to cartoonishly exaggerated as she charts an emotional course through such topics as the difficulties of playing the role of “woman” in a misogynist world (“Playing Puppet”) or the injustice of anthropocentric hierarchy (“Tightrope Walker”). Musical Chairs is serious music not meant to be taken too seriously\, a playful act of resistance\, a meditation on the good and bad of this world\, and ultimately a remarkable statement on the continuing growth of Artificial Go. \nhttps://artificialgo.bandcamp.com/ \nNO PEELING was formed in 2025 as a studio project by five friends in the fertile Nottingham DIY underground. September 2025’s self-titled EP was the perfect introduction to the No Peeling universe. Bandcamp Daily picked it as an Essential Release\, calling it “a clanging collection of get-in-get-out egg punk that doesn’t ask for more than 10 minutes of your time and overdelivers on every front”. It managed to cram a lifetime of idea-nuggets into seven songs that rarely exceeded the minute mark. A blast of enthusiasm and hyperactivity\, the EP was the audio equivalent of a barrage firework: exhilarating and energising. Whilst the first EP was completed before the band had played live; the forthcoming EP2 hits a little differently. \nEP2 has the garage punk clatter and sparkly efficiency of their debut but is somehow faster and weirder. The guitar and synth seem to be engaged in a constant (playful) fight\, tumbling further and further away from the song structure being held together (and propelled) by one of the tightest rhythm sections around. The scrawl and skronk might occasionally recall No Wave but those grooves are locked down. This all provides the perfect foundation for the wry\, dry observations of Sophie Diver. From pasta post and fluff-clad delinquents to clingfilm catastrophes and poor working conditions\, all modern life’s bases are covered and emerge miraculously from a magic-eye explosion of clangs\, thwacks and bloops. \nhttps://nopeeling.bandcamp.com/album/no-peeling

SUMMARY:Tomi Balogh – A Reason To Listen
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome back London-based pianist\, composer\, and producer\, Tomi Balogh\, to the Liszt Institute London for a special pre-release concert of his newest album\, A Reason To Listen. \nA Reason To Listen is his most personal work to date. Inspired by his son Samuel\, who was diagnosed with a rare genetic syndrome shortly after birth\, the album is a meditation on unconditional love\, on finding joy in unexpected places\, and on learning to let go of expectations. It is a story that extends far beyond one family — a reminder that every person deserves to be loved exactly as they are. \nJoining Tomi for this special evening are featured collaborators from the album: Rick Leon James the multi-instrumentalist\, bass player and producer\, Zsofi Bartal flautist\, Selina Albright\, vocalist and Daniel Deej John on drums. Together\, they bring the album to life in an intimate live setting before its release to the world. \nAlongside the music\, Tomi is partnering with charities that support families raising children with additional needs – and this concert is part of that wider conversation. \nAdmission is free. Registration via Eventbrite is required.
