SUMMARY:“Postcards to you” Photography Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:“Postcards to you” explores the power of art as a therapy. In this series the artist follows the thread of her own memories and absences by using an assemblage of found imagery depicting family life as a trigger to unlock her own childhood memories. Notably she couples these with text to give strangers personal connotations. Through impressing her own identity\, the artist is able to wistfully convey a feeling of anxiety and loss. The photographs have been buried inferring a lack of control over her personal outcomes\, the contact with soil suggesting the frailty of human life and memory\, reminding us of beginning and end\, death and life and the imminence of passing of time.

The online performance is an audiovisual “tour de force” through his exceptional and extravagant mutant visual style\, which you’ll recognise from unmistakeable video and still image projects for artists including Amnesia Scanner\, Danny L Harle and Caroline Polachek.\nThanks to the grant given by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic\,\, everyone can enjoy 360° AV experience FOR FREE. The result of Sam Rolfes’s residency Fact Magazine\, a bizarre 360˚ online video can be seen with cardboard VR glasses or a VR headset.\nSam Rolfes is a Chicago and New York based mixed-format digital artist and director who has been called “L’Enfant terrible of digital arts” by Clot Magazine. He uses the human body as a mark making device and underlying structure\, crafting diffusive psychosexual worlds that sublimate space and identity. His work examines the mutability and malleability of flesh\, incorporating surreal performances through the lens of contemporary portraiture. He has worked with Danny Brown\, Rihanna and Squarepusher\, as well as making live 3D visuals for Evian Christ\, Mumdance\, Lightning Bolt\, and Teengirl Fantasy.\nSupported by Czech Centre London \n*** TO ENJOY THE 360° AV EXPERIENCE\, YOU WILL NEED CARDBOARD VR GLASSES*** \n1 October – Ethno Service & Štěpán Marko (AV live)\nCoorganised by Czech Centre London \nIf you like techno tinted with a dubby atmosphere then look no further. Tracks by Ethno Service are filled with thrill\, suspense and trippy haze\, which create an amazing cinematic ambience. Despite their name\, ES is not an ethno music cliché. It is proper heavyweight percussive dub from the jungle – where Mowgli would piss his pants and run away screaming – places with decent opium and streets with no name.\nFor the very first time Ethno Service will be accompanied by their own distinctive visuals\, which develops their language even further. At the beginning there was the Dusk. The Dusk was a Haze. The Haze was a Sound. That was the beginning. Moments of strobe light\, dripping from the ceiling. Over time\, the first clusters of Latin information wrapped in Sanskrit robes began to form from Arabic numerals. With six-sided pressure\, it first liquefied and later solidified. The primitive Artifact. There was a delicate movement on the temple floor. The small fossil card slowly slides toward the altar. Pure energy flows through the sonically engraved lettering. Ethno Service\, at your service. \n3 October – NIVVA (AV live)\n(World premiere)\nCo-organised by Czech Centre London\nVirtual musician or digital being? Or both? NIVVA is a music/an artwork from Prague\, Czech Republic. What sets it apart from other music bands is that the main face of this project is a digital avatar. NIVVA’s debut EP\, called EASY\, was released by Czech record label Bad Names (Margo\, Sundays on Clarendon Road) in February 2020.\nFour minimalist electronic songs on Easy EP tell stories of exploring the limits of intimacy and what happens when a digital avatar breaks the character. The upcoming work talks about the future of artificial intelligence and how the algorithms that surround us on a daily basis affect our lives. NIVVA hasn’t performed live yet\, Lunchmeat festival helps with the premiere of her first audiovisual show. \nAbout Czech Centre London:\nThe Czech Centre’s mission is to actively promote the Czech Republic by showcasing Czech culture\, innovations and creativity in the UK. SUMMARY:Almagul Menlibayeva || Yerbossyn Meldibekov
DESCRIPTION:For their first project in the UK\, Aspan Gallery present a duo exhibition by two of Central Asia’s most prominent contemporary artists\, Almagul Menlibayeva and Yerbossyn Meldibekov.\nThe exhibition title\, Almagul Menlibayeva: It’s Easy to Be a Line / Yerbossyn Meldibekov: It’s Difficult to Be a Point\, comes from a phrase by an important Soviet avant-garde artist Sergey Kalmykov (1891-1967): “It’s difficult to be a point – it’s easy to be a line\, as everything in our world is moving”. Kalmykov moved in the 1930s from Moscow to Almaty\, where he was able to paint his imaginary parallel universes with fantastical creatures\, far removed from the Socialist Realist constraints imposed by the Soviet State. Kalmykov was an important historical figure\, and whilst under recognised\, the fact of his existence itself had a tremendous impact on the development of the contemporary art scene in Central Asia. \nReserve en

SUMMARY:Group Exhibition: Mother Art Prize 2020
DESCRIPTION:A group show featuring twenty short-listed artists of the Mother Art Prize 2020\, the only international prize for self-identifying women and non-binary visual artists with caring responsibilities.\nParticipating Artists:\nCassie Arnold \nHelen Benigson \nViolet Costello \nEmmeline de Mooij \nChristine De Vuono \nSabba Elahi \nMichelle Hartney \nMadison Hendry \nSadie Hennessy \nKatherine Lovett \nLauren Pisano \nEileen Reynolds \nLouise Richardson \nCarly Schmitt \nHolly Stevenson \nMarta Stysiak \nKim Walker \nEmma Wilson \nCoral Woodbury \nProcreate Project presents a group exhibition featuring 19 short-listed artists of the Mother Art Prize 2020\, the only international prize for self-identifying women and non-binary visual artists with caring responsibilities. \nThis platform aims to promote and support women artists who are mothers\, as well as drive the attention of the wider public to a broad-spectrum of themes that would otherwise be overlooked and devalued\, embracing the risk necessary to achieve a sea change in the perception and normalization of women’s artistic output as part of the cultural landscape. \nEstablished and curated by Procreate Project\, this prize’s edition puts together the most exciting leaders and organisations working to tackle the gender bias and intersectional issues in the art scene. \nFeaturing artists that work across a range of media\, the works were selected among 626 entries from 45 countries and judged by Niamh Coghlan (Director\, Richard Saltoun Gallery)\, Pauline Desouza (Director\, Diversity Art Forum)\, Elvira Dyangani Tse (Director\, The Showroom)\, Eva Langret (Artistic Director\, Frieze London)\, Claire Mander (Chair of Steering Committee UK Friends\, National Museum of Women in the Arts and Director\, the CoLAB) and Frances Morris (Director\, Tate Modern). \nThe winner of this year’s edition\, announced in May 2020\, is Helen Benigson. She will have an upcoming solo show in partnership with The Showroom as part of her award. Helen is followed by Violet Costello\, recipient of the Online Award\, with an online Solo Exhibition with Richard Saltoun Gallery\, and Eileen Reynold recipient of the International Award with an upcoming residency with Procreate Project and art material sponsored by Colart. \nTheir works raise questions around the representation and construction of the body\, religious identities\, sexualities and gender\, as well as reproductive technologies. \n“Procreate Project is a vitally important space that supports and champions artists who are carers\, (m)others or parents. Procreate Project understands the elastic fragility of what it means to make and show artwork\, at the same time as having competing caring responsibilities. At this very surreal and anxious time that we are all living through\, spaces like this are extremely rare and extra special\, so I am very grateful to Procreate Project and the Mother Art Prize for existing and supporting our work.” – Helen Benigson\, Mother Art Prize 2020 Winner \nThe exhibition is co-curated by Paola Lucente (director\, Procreate Project) and Claire Mander (Chair of Steering Committee UK Friends\, National Museum of Women in the Arts and Director\, the CoLAB).

SUMMARY:Arabian Moucharabieh
DESCRIPTION:Lawrie Shabibi present a series of recent paintings by Moroccan artist Mohamed Melehi.\nThe presentation includes eight artworks from his Moucharabieh (2020) series\, reminiscent of his bold graphic compositions from the early 1970’s\, where he produced the now-familiar wave motif in block colours\, yet now on a much grander scale. The motif of the wave is\, for Melehi\, all about movement and change. It is as much about electromagnetic radiation as it is about water\, and when vertical it becomes a flame. The Moucharabieh (2020) series strips away the waves to their bare essentials – they become all-over diagonal compositions – giving emphasis to the curved line\, hyper-graphism and a clear chromatic palette.
