DESCRIPTION:The ‘Okinawa Day 2022’ event returns to London for its fourth edition on Saturday 24th September. The event will take place at The Blue Market and celebrate the uniqueness of Japan’s southernmost prefecture. The event will introduce the audience to music and dances from several islands of the Ryukyu archipelago to highlight its rich cultural diversity. The event will take place from 12 pm to 5 pm and is free to join. \n\n\n\nThose attending will enjoy Okinawan classical and folk songs accompanied by Sanshin (lute) and taiko (drums)\, as well as Eisa taiko drumming and dancing performances. In addition to music and dance\, there will also be Karate demonstrations\, Okinawan food and craft stalls. \n\n\n\nThe event is organised by London Okinawa Sanshinkai and Okinawa Association UK and supported by the Okinawa Convention and Visitors Bureau and other sponsors (further details below).

You don’t need special dance shoes for the workshop but please wear something supportive with a smooth non-stick sole (such as leather or plastic but not trainers\, chunky boots or rubber soled footwear) as you’ll be pivoting on the ball of your foot and sliding the foot along the floor. With clothing\, just wear something comfortable and casual that you can move about in.

His own production & remixes have featured on labels including BBE (UK)\, Africa Seven (uk ) \,Kalita (UK)\, Emotional Rescue (UK/Japan) \,Rocafort (Italy)\,Flee (Switzerland)\, Lastrum (Japan)& Village Again(Japan)….His own Mukatsuku vinyl only \,singles only label imprint launched in 2006 has had over 80 releases so far putting out quality new productions alongside classic hard to find reissues of Afro Funk\, Soul\, Funk \,Jazz\, Reggae\, Boogie\, Hip Hop\, Lovers Rock and Latin genres.\n\nAs a DJ he plays predominately the 45 format . Over the years he has held down residencies at Jazz Café (London)\,Jazz Rooms Brighton and most recently South London Soul Train (8 years ) to name but a few.\nAs a DJ has played with hundreds of International bands & DJ’s globally including the likes of Pharaoh Sanders\, DJ Krush\, Moodyman\, Tania Maria\, Tricky\, Soil & Pimp Sessions\, Jazztronik \, Courtney Pine\, Koop\, Nicola Conte \,Marc de Clive Lowe\, Marlena Shaw and was both Gilles Peterson’s /Jazzanova’s warm up DJ at their ongoing Jazz Café residencies. He has also warmed up for Gilles Peterson other venues in London\, Marseilles France and Almaty in Kazahkstan.

Autumn/Resistance: trespass and dispossession. Winter/Survival: journeying and hope. This Is The Land could not be more relevant to the issues of our times – ecological crisis\, social inequality\, and political repression of dissenting voices – whilst raising these in a highly original way. \n\n\n\nThis Is The Land’s stripped-back abstract-expressionist style is highly visual\, visceral\, and physical. The performance resists narrative through its ‘mash-up’ style of fragmentary images\, compelling movement and dance\, atmospheric soundtrack and live-vocal looping.
