DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to announce our upcoming Ceramics Markets\, a showcase with over 200 different makers over four days. We’ll be in Leyton studio on November 23rd and 24th and in Highgate studio on December 7th and 8th. \nWhether you’re a returning pottery lover or a curious newcomer\, the markets offer something for everyone: browse the one-of-a-kind pieces\, meet the makers behind the masterpieces\, and discover why this mindful craft is so popular in the city.  \nThere will be street food\, from freshly baked sourdough pizza to BBQ delicacies and hot dogs. We’ll have festive drinks to warm you up in cold weather\, from local craft beer to mulled wine\, barista coffees\, or soft drinks if you prefer to keep it chilled. Last but not least\, there will be live music to add an extra dose of festive cheer to the atmosphere.   \nThere will be live wheel-throwing demos on all four market days\, so you can get up close and see lumps of clay transform into beautiful pottery. For anyone who would like to get hands-on with clay\, there will be drop-in workshops at the Leyton market on November 23rd and 24th.  \nDuring the Leyton Market\, our neighbours will also open their doors for the Argall Ave Open Studios\, which will feature fine woodwork businesses\, a bamboo bicycle maker\, and food and drinks from the local Pavilion Bakery and Ha Noi Cafe. \nOn Sunday\, November 24th\, the makers of the East End Trades Guild will also join us to add handcrafted goods other than ceramics.  \nEach year\, Turning Earth makers donate special pieces and seconds to raise money for organisations that reflect Turning Earth’s vision of building a community with open arms. This year\, we’re supporting the potters and craftspeople affected by the recent hurricanes in the Southeast US through the charity CERF+.

DESCRIPTION:A practical\, hands-on workshop with textile artist and lecturer Nicole Line. \nLearn to hand paint and mark-make onto paper using a variety of colourful liquid dyes before transferring your designs onto recycled synthetic fabric using the heat press. This process is known as heat-transfer printing or ‘sublimation printing’. Your designs will be inspired by the beautiful textiles within Leighton House or your own ideas. \nBy the end of the workshop\, you will have a greater understanding of the process\, the equipment\, and the materials needed to print at home. SUMMARY:Family Fun: Yemeni Embroidery with London Craft Week
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with The Barakat Trust and as part of London Craft Week\,  join our hands-on workshop to learn how to stitch your own embroidered square inspired by the designs of a beautiful Yemeni dress. \n  \nLed by Nouria Nagi\, OBE (founder of Yemen Noor Foundation for Education and Relief)\, she will talk about the important role that embroidery plays in her country\,  Yemen. She will explain more about a special project to teach fellow women to create beautiful wall hangings and cushions inspired by forgotten designs. \nUseful information\n\nThe workshop is designed for children of primary school age\, 5-11-years-old.\nChildren must be accompanied by an adult during the workshop (please note: workshops are not drop-off).\nTo avoid disappointment\, please do not book tickets for younger children and siblings\, as they will not be able to participate. Additional family members accompanying younger siblings are welcome to enjoy our cafe and garden during the workshop.\nOur Family Fun and Young People workshops take inspiration from Leighton House\, the collections and our temporary exhibitions and include a short tour of the historic house.\nAccompanying adults (1 adult per child) come for free\, and admission to the historic house is included.\nThe session will take place in the Learning Centre at Leighton House.
