SUMMARY:Nina | Battersea Arts Centre
DESCRIPTION:“I’m a seagull. No\, that’s not right. I’m an actress.”\nA series of actresses audition to play Nina in The Seagull for a charismatic\, yet sinister director. His methods are unorthodox\, annihilating\, and very effective. \nIn a debut play from celebrated director Caroline Williams\, co-directed by award-\nwinning artist Deborah Pearson\, NINA questions why so many women are drawn to\nplay an actress who has everything taken away from her by men. And why do the men\nin Chekhov’s original play keep trying to turn the girls they fancy into dead seagulls? \nIn a post #MeToo era\, NINA is a meta theatrical fever dream on coercion\, power and the quest for creative expression. \n“One of the most insightful encounters I have had in a theatre.” Theatre Voices \n“If the opportunity presents itself to see Pearson’s work you must go immediately.” The Huffington Post

SUMMARY:The Abbey Art Centre as Postwar Refuge\, 1946–56
DESCRIPTION:Ben Uri is delighted to announce the upcoming exhibition\, The Abbey Art Centre as Postwar Refuge\, 1946–56\, marking the simultaneous publication of The Abbey Art Centre in postwar London 1946–1956\, eds.\, Jane Eckette\, Ian McLean and Sheridan Palmer (Routledge)\, this autumn. \nThe exhibition unfolds the remarkable story of the Abbey Art Centre\, a cosmopolitan art colony established at New Barnet in 1946 by charismatic artist\, gallerist and world art collector\, William Ohly (1883–1955). A crucible of creativity on London’s northern edge\, the Abbey was a postwar haven for stateless Jewish refugees\, as well as artists from Australia\, Britain and continental Europe. Ohly’s openness to outsiders extended to his dealings at the Berkeley Galleries in Mayfair\, which opened in late 1941 during the Blitz and where Abbey artists occasionally exhibited\, as well as Commonwealth artists and artists from Ohly’s own world art collection. The Abbey was an important seeding bed for cross-cultural and transnational modernism that proved pivotal to the careers of many artists\, as they navigated the seismic political and cultural shifts taking place in the postwar and postcolonial artistic landscape in Britain and beyond. \nFeaturing paintings\, sculpture\, drawings\, monotypes\, lithographs\, puppets and related photographs\, books and archival materials\, the exhibition includes artworks by Abbey residents Scottish painter Alan Davie\, English sculptor Peter King\, English painter Lilian Colbourn\, German émigré painters and printmakers Marcel Frishman\, Margret Kroch-Frishman and William Ohly\, Austrians Helen Grünwald and Angela Varga\, sculptors Inge King and Gudrun Krüger\, pioneering German animator Lotte Reiniger\, Ukrainian painter Stacha Halpern\, Australian constructivist Robert Klippel and painters James Cant and Mary Webb. Narrative sub-themes include the impact of African and Indigenous Australian art on emerging artists and socially conscious painter-printmakers working in London’s East End. The exhibition also features a small number of artists associated with the Berkeley Galleries including Nigerian modernist Ben Enwonwu\, German sculptor Fred Kormis and Prussian-born graphic artist Katerina Wilczynski\, as well as related photographs\, books and archival materials. \nA book launch and a related series of events will accompany the exhibition.

SUMMARY:(no) Pause: Living Sculpture
DESCRIPTION:Shuyi Alice Wang transforms the body into a living sculpture in a durational performance presented by Zarastro Art during Frieze Sculpture. \n\n\n\n\n(no) Pause: Living Sculpture is a durational outdoor performance presented by Zarastro Art during Frieze Sculpture 2026\, exploring how life continues through constant motion and daily repetition. \nDeveloped from Wang’s ongoing work (no) Pause\, this outdoor iteration focuses on its living sculpture\, bringing the work into direct relationship with the landscape of Regent’s Park and the wider context of Frieze Sculpture. \nRooted to a single patch of grass\, Shuyi Alice Wang moves continuously within a translucent geometric structure. The feet remain in place while the body pivots\, folds\, and extends outwards. The wearable form extends each movement\, following the body without ever completely obeying it. Wind redirects its surfaces\, while changing daylight continually alters its transparency\, reflections\, and shadows. \nThere is no music or composed soundtrack. The work unfolds through breath\, physical effort\, shifting material\, and the sounds of the surrounding park. Actions return\, but no movement can be repeated in exactly the same way. \nFrom a distance\, the figure may appear fixed and monumental; encountered over time\, it is never actually still. When the performer leaves\, the flattened grass remains as a temporary trace of a living\, moving form. \nThe exact location within the English Gardens will be announced ahead of the performance.

SUMMARY:The Odyssey Live!
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by Christopher Nolan’s film release and in homage to Homer’s magnificent epic\, The London Literary Salon presents The Odyssey Live! \n\n\n\n\nThe Odyssey Live! is a new in-person event created by The London Literary Salon\, coming to the Century Club on 17 October. \nSalon founder Toby Brothers\, who has shared the Odyssey with readers aged from 9 to 90\, will be joined by fellow enthusiasts Alexis Cambanis and Susanna Taggart to bring key passages from The Odyssey to life\, following the hero’s 10-year journey home to Ithaca\, his encounters with the Cyclops\, the Sirens and Circe\, and his reunion with his wife and son. \nThe performance will combine readings\, including passages heard in both English and Greek\, illuminated with context and discussion. It will be followed by an audience Q&A exploring why this extraordinary story\, written nearly 3\,000 years ago\, remains so relevant today. \nSign up to The London Literary Salon newsletter here for more information and 20% off the first salon. \n“Whether we know it or not\, The Odyssey is already part of our cultural heritage. If you have seen Star Wars\, read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn\, watched Ridley Scott’s Gladiator\, or immersed yourself in the world of Harry Potter\, you have glimpsed Homer’s work in the background\,” – Toby Brothers\, founder of the London Literary Salon

SUMMARY:3 Evenings: Saturday | Somerset House
DESCRIPTION:The second night of 3 Evenings invites two brand new collaborations\, between Holly Blakey and Studios artist Tai Shani\, and fellow Studios artist Gary Zhexi Zhang with collaborators Klara Kofen and Cameron Graham. New York’s Team Rolfes bring the evening to high energy close\, with world premieres of newly commissioned interactive installations from Ayoung Kim\, Xin Liu\, Keiken and a reimagined work by Louis Morlæ\, across all nights. Saturday’s event also features a newly commissioned intervention by Studios artists Nina Davies and Zein Majali. \nA three-night event and international transmission\, 3 Evenings takes Somerset House Studios’ distinctive approach to interdisciplinary experimentation beyond the Somerset House walls with three different live performance experiments each night\, set within a wider programme of newly commissioned works and interactive installations. \n3 Evenings playfully reimagines the 1966 event 9 Evenings: Theatre and Engineering\, widely regarded as a pivotal moment in the history of artists working with new technologies. Sixty years on from the original event\, artists from the Studios community and international special guests explore what it means to perform with technology now\, in the same radical spirit of experimentation. \nUnfolding within the spaces of a former hydraulic power station\, echoing the industrial character of the original 1960s venue\, this will be a three-night ticketed event offsite at Wapping Hydraulic Power Station.

SUMMARY:SOPHIA DJEBEL ROSE + SHE THE THRONE | Upset The Rhythm
DESCRIPTION:Upset The Rhythm presents… \nSOPHIA DJEBEL ROSE\nSHE THE THRONE\nSaturday 17 October\nThe Horse Hospital\, Colonnade\, London\, WC1N 1JD\n7.30pm | £11 | Tickets: https://link.dice.fm/hf9055210b2d \nSOPHIA DJEBEL ROSE is a Franco-Moroccan artist who distills a singular music. Blending folk\, noise\, experimental song\, and avant-garde poetry\, she invents a new language of her own. Born into the perpetual exile of a childhood divided between two countries\, Sophia has turned wandering into her greatest strength. As a modern poetess\, she now takes the stage alone\, armed with an electric guitar\, to sing of the beauty of the lands she has ceaselessly left behind. Her live performances intertwine Mediterranean music with ecological and feminist themes\, all of it carried by a syncretic approach that merges into a mysticism meant as an invitation to break the course of things and to reclaim one’s strength. Her latest album\, Sécheresse\, released in february 2025 unveils nine mesmerizing & genre-defying tracks imbued with magnetic allure. Austere yet baroque\, dark yet luminous\, raw yet refined\, this work escapes all categorization: it is an act of faith. To class among the unclassifiable\, Sophia Djebel Rose lays the foundations for an oeuvre that follows in the lineage of avant-garde women who never ceased to challenge and expand the limits of style. \nhttps://sophiadjebelrose.bandcamp.com/ \nSHE THE THRONE are a ritual noise duo from Manchester UK. They aim to bring forth an ancient latent rhythmic union merging themselves\, the space they play with the audience who listens\, urging them to remember. Musically incorporating elements of industrial music and harsh noise with the darker melody of bands like Portishead\, fused to the backbone of experimental hip hop. Since the release of their 2023 album\, “NUNTIS” on Trepanation Recordings\, they have shared line ups with a diverse range of artists such as: The Body & Dis Fig\, Wolf Eyes\, METH\, AYA\, Dälek\, Greet\, SATORI\, Collosloth and more. \nhttps://shethethrone.bandcamp.com/
