The Cruising Garden

March 1 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

£7

The Cruising Garden is becoming a multidisciplinary event . It started as a performative installation but at its fourth edition it is giving equal value and space to the performance art, installation art and video screenings .
The Cruising Garden is interested in poetry, politics, the imaginative the conceptual…. the various and divers lenses through which culture and society is being observed, experienced and investigated.
The present curatorial concept is to unfold a Triptych of events concerning (non)-gendered explorations and experiences of lived dimensions of ”Reality” under the overarching theme ”Embodiments’ Poetics and Politics ” .
The Part I of the Triptych is taking place on the 1st of March 2018 under The Railway Arch No.5 on Bohemia Place, off Mare Street, near Hackney Central in a new ephemeral venue .

Artists that will take part in the upcoming event :

BAHAR BORNA FARAZ

Bahar Borna Faraz’ practice takes a critical and at the same time personal view of social, political and cultural issues. In her practice, she challenges her gender, the social roles that society has been imposing on her as a woman and as an Iranian. She challenges the social norms from a female point of view. She tries to understand her body and to use is in a therapeutic way to conquer the difficulties that she has experienced in her life.

MANON AQUILINA

Manon Aquilina is a performance and a visual artist. Their practice usually uncovers taboo subjects. They are interested in what Carl Jung described as the shadow self as well as in issues of gender and sexuality. The piece that will be performed at The Cruising Garden features as a part of a bigger project in which the artist uses their own menstrual blood as well as the blood of others, as a medium, in order to raise awareness of the oppression of the feminine.

YANI B

Yani B is interested in the body as expression and manifestation of culture, ideology, gender, sexuality, social ethics and collective aspirations. She lives in London, loves contradictions and despises assumptions and horseradish.

ROSIE GIBBENS

Rosie Gibbens uses performances and videos to set up unlikely collaborations between her body and everyday objects. Ordinary functions of tools are rejected and their fetishistic qualities unearthed in attempt to destabilise learned compartmentalism between the erotic and mundane. She explores the politics of sex and power, playing with clichés of femininity and daring the viewer to adopt a voyeuristic gaze. Rosie questions what it means to demand to be looked at, in a society where women’s idealised bodies are often vehicles for commodity promotion. She hopes to simultaneously amuse and unsettle the viewer.
